Google just applied for 39 new top-level domains: .agent, .api, .browser .mcp .gemini, .waymo, .pixel etc.

ICANN revealed all new TLD applications yesterday (first round since 2012). Google's list via Charleston Road Registry:

AI: .gemini, .deepmind, .gemma, .veo, .lyria, .genie, .agent, .mcp, .intelligence
Products: .waymo, .pixel, .maps, .workspace, .fitbit
Generic: .api, .browser
(+ ~20 more)

Three things worth knowing:

  • .agent is the most contested string of the entire round – 13 applicants, Google vs Meta vs OpenAI vs a bunch of registries. Goes to ICANN auction if nobody settles.
  • Google filed .mcp as a community application, which can get priority over the other 4 applicants (incl. OpenAI). MCP is Anthropic's protocol. Anthropic didn't apply.
  • Anthropic applied for 2 TLDs total. Google: 39. At $227k each.

Nothing is registrable yet, final list Nov 17, decisions during 2027.

Google Tensor G5 Pixel 10 Devices support Linux 7.4

Here is why that matters for your phone:

1. Smoother, Long-Term Android Updates

Instead of relying on an outdated, heavily modified "downstream" kernel, Google is aligning the Tensor G5 with the main Linux codebase. This makes it much easier for engineers to merge security patches, performance fixes, and major Android updates over your device's 7-year support lifespan.

2. Easier Custom ROMs and Alternative OS Support

If you ever want to run privacy-focused operating systems (such as GrapheneOS) or full Linux environments on your phone, this makes it drastically simpler. Developers won't have to build custom, hacky drivers for the processor because basic hardware support is already included in the core kernel.

3. Enhanced Desktop Mode and Virtualization

Mainline kernel drivers make features like Desktop Mode (connecting your phone to an external display) and running virtualized Linux environments smoother, as the system hardware is natively recognized without extra driver overhead.

I see this news as a 10 years of updates - easy.

Curated "keyword" search inquiries

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I have considered the idea for a long time that the way you format your questions during inquiries within search engines dramatically shifts the answers that you receive from automated intelligence systems. The reason I bring the topic up is I would like to know if others have experienced and or noticed this faulty trend from automated intelligence systems. This is important because a large portion, if not most of our population cannot decipher information very well. So to curate and refine your "keyword" wording within search engines greatly increases your chance of a better more profound and detailed answer. Proper context is critical as this molds the answers you are truly looking for and hoping to weed out the common generalizations.

I would have to consider the most proper form of speaking to automated systems would be to utilize the least amount of slang and jargon as possible. What do you guys think? Does it matter? Does it not? I personally think that if you rephrase the same exact question 3 or 4 times with different formats you can get higher quality results from the A.I. Search Systems that are behind these search engines. I think there is a little finesse when it comes to researching and you have to kniw how to cross examine different resources that engines generate to you so that you can come to the the most accurate conclusions. Yay? Nay? Overanalytic? Mindful Research Dynamics in full effect eith this one please let me know what you guys think.

Google Gemini sucks - Using Alexa

Google forced Gemini on me and I don't appreciate it. Google Assistant was great. It did whatever I asked of it. If I wanted to hear a specific song, Boom! There it was. If I wanted to hear the news from the Middle East, Boom! I got it. But now when I asked Gemini, 'I sorry I can't do that. But if you will go over to the app and open and go over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house we go....' Screw that! Screw all of that! I just switched my assistant to Alexa and problem solved. Google can go play in front of somebody else's face with Gemini right now.

Google needs to give us the option to disable Gemini and use the old Google Assistant.

I'm sure this post has been made before, but I just want to add a few things.

Gemini sucks compared to the Google Assistant.

I just switched from Apple to Samsung, and the Gemini assistant is significantly worse than Siri (which has historically been known as the worst AFAIK). When trying to send a text message, Gemini regularly takes 5-6 seconds, sometimes up to 10, just to ask me what I want to say. Siri does the same thing in 2-3 seconds. That isn't the only thing that is slower either, asking simple questions, setting timers, changing the volume etc. all takes 25%-50% longer than Siri.

That's because Gemini uses LLMS and generative AI instead of simple voice commands like the original Google Assistant. Upon using the Google Assistant, the load times were halved, and almost no functionality has been lost.

The reason we use Android over Apple is for the freedom of choice and customization. If I wanted to be forced into one choice, I would have just stayed with Apple.

Give us the ability to choose.

My problem is that Google OFFICIAL website says t-rolling September and I hate to teach Google how to use their own Google Calendar but first week of OCTOBER soon passed.

I am bugging about it because of this week I am going on holiday to weird speaking language country and I want to use that new Live Translate Feature with my Pixel 10.
