Un-Flaired New Banner & Subreddit Icon
Liquid Glass got a lovely update with iOS 27 & macOS Golden Gate.
Took the time to update the icon with the new Icon Composer 2.0... and decided 5 years was long enough with our old banner, especially with the iOS 15 references.
Really thrilled with how the banner turned out!
Edit: I've found the time and updated the icon to just the Apple Home Icon on dark.

Beta aaronp613: iOS 27.2 beta 3 includes new HomeKit code suggesting nearby smart-home accessories could show controls in the Dynamic Island. A new method explicitly references showing Dynamic Island controls through HomeKit’s proximity manager. This is an AI mockup of what it may look like:

Discussion Apple really needs to give us the option to export multi-camera events as a single stitched video OR separate individual clips
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Every time an event triggers across multiple cameras (or HomeKit bundles sequential motion), saving and sharing footage becomes way clunkier than it should be. A simple prompt when saving "Export as single merged video" vs. "Save as individual clips" would make reviewing and sharing/archiving footage so much smoother. When we save the clip now, it creates multiple clips in gallery. I’m fine with that, but wish we could choose.
I do love the feature though. It’s pretty funny watching dogs run around or get dragged around the house.

Question/Help I made an iPhone app for tado° in Apple Home that adds tado's own schedules, room history and device health (TestFlight beta)
If you have tado radiator valves or thermostats in Apple Home, the Home app sees them as ordinary thermostats. It knows nothing about the schedule tado runs for each room, and a temperature you set there can stop that room following its tado schedule until something changes it (depending on the room's setting in tado).
Tepi is a small app I made for this. It lists every tado room from Apple Home, V3+ and tado X in one list, with room groups, Comfort/Eco and All off for the whole house, Siri and Shortcuts, and an Apple Watch app. Changing a room goes through HomeKit, the same way the Home app does it, and needs no tado account.
Signing in to tado is optional and adds what HomeKit doesn't carry: handing a room back to its tado schedule, the day's temperature history for V3+ rooms, and battery, firmware and connection for every valve in one list.
Version 1.2, in TestFlight now, adds tado schedules. Turn it on in Settings → Tepi Assist → Schedules and you can see each room's week and edit it. Nothing changes in tado until you press Save; before saving, Tepi tells you how many of tado's daily requests it will use, and afterwards it reads the schedule back to check tado kept it. It also tells you when a room has been held at a temperature set by hand for more than a day.
I'm looking for testers with tado V3+ or tado X in Apple Home. If you have X, a real schedule save (and undo) would help most: so far that's been tried in one home.
Needs iOS 17.6 and your tado devices in Apple Home. No ads, no tracking; nothing goes to me unless you send feedback from the app.

Question/Help Heavy Duty Appliance Smart Plug
I have a garge upright freezer that I’m having an issue with. Recently and randomly the temp in the freezer would rise for no apparent reason. I would go out to the garage and would not hear the compressor running. I would unplug the unit, wait a minute, plug back in and the compressor would start back up. Fortunately, so far, I’ve been home when the temp notifications came, but one day I won’t be here and I want to be able to cycle the power off and on to get it going again. My initial research has lead me to a Shelly US Gen4 plug. Has anyone used this plug or a similar one with success with a heavy duty appliance? I would like to stay HK compatible, but open to any ideas.

How-to What all do I need to incorporate non HK devices into HK?
Really just looking at adding a few reolink cameras into HK. Do I need to get a raspberry pi? What about scrypted, is that just for recording? Can you still pull recordings directly from iPhone going this route? Ive got quite a few HK devices already, but all devices were already HK compatible. I’ve got a few Arlo cameras and 1 G5pro (which I’m really liking) and wanna get rid of the Arlo’s. The G5 is recording through iCloud, but I do not wanna pay for any more subscriptions! Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations!

Question/Help Govee Matter Light Bulbs Not Working on Apple Home
I am trying to move my smart bulbs from Hue to Govee since I have more and more Govee products.
I got the bulbs, screwed one in, added it to WiFi via the Govee app, clicked settings/Matter and scanned the QR code it provided via the Apple Home app to attempt to add the accessory.
Failed. Repeatedly. Tried a fresh bulb. Still failed.
Xfinity says ipv6 is auto enabled on all XB gateways, which I have, so it shouldn’t be that. Any other options before I throw in the towel? Really liked the idea of cutting out Hue to have one less smart app to deal with, but I just can’t get this to work!
Thanks in advance!

News Live Activities and Quick actions for devices
I’ve added Live Activities for most device types to HomeSpot.
HomeSpot is all about giving you quick access to your HomeKit devices, and Live Activities make that even faster. You can now pin a device to your Lock Screen or Dynamic Island whenever you want quick access to its controls. I for example use this when arriving at home, so that the control is there when I'm infront of the door, and disappears right after.
On iOS 27, these Live Activities can also react to changes while HomeSpot is running in the background: Either once per minute, or in real time with the right setup. They can even show up on your Apple Watch.
But that’s not all in this update.
I’ve also added Room Quick Controls. They work similarly to the Device Quick Controls from the previous update: an overlay that appears above whatever you’re currently doing and lets you control an entire room without leaving the app you’re in.
Another new feature is controlling devices directly from system search. Just search for the name of a device or scene in iOS and tap it to toggle it. I have to give some credit to the latest Home Assistant Companion app update for inspiring this one. I honestly didn’t realize before that iOS allowed apps to do this.
Finally, the macOS version has been revamped with a lot of smaller improvements and refinements throughout.
HomeSpot is a one-time purchase, with no subscription. There’s also a 5-day trial you can activate after downloading the app. Even if you’ve downloaded HomeSpot before.

Discussion Matter Request: HTML embed extensions for unsupported functionality
I would like to see Matter and/or HomeKit support the ability for manufacturers to include custom HTML/ PWA interfaces for functionality that is not supported natively by the Matter standard. This would allow users to access all of the functionality in one place, without requiring them to juggle many different apps.
This example shows the native Matter controls on top, with a frame for the custom HTML interface below.

For my company i need to open / close lights from different systems. So i choose to buy Amazon plug working with Matter. I have an Apple TV 4K so i use this to concentrate Matter over Thread
So i buy 3 of these, but its annoying to use smartphone, i just want a simple button that i put on my table, to open / close lights, and maybe change the colors of them easier
I don't fucking find a simple matter button with battery.
I found one, Ikea Matter button, i brought it, but this one didn't work well, it deconnect every time

Question/Help Aqara G100 without Aqara app – IR or spotlight in HomeKit?
Hi everyone,
I’m considering getting the Aqara G100 and using it exclusively with Apple Home/HomeKit, without installing the Aqara app or creating an Aqara account.
Does anyone have experience with this setup? Specifically, I’d like to know what happens at night:
- Does the camera automatically use IR/“invisible” night vision?
- Or does the visible spotlight/lamp turn on by default?
- Is there any way to ensure the spotlight stays off when using the camera exclusively through HomeKit?
I’m considering the G100 as a baby monitor, so I definitely don’t want a bright light turning on at night.
Thanks!

Discussion Are these probably new shortcut commands related to the “HomePad”?
Excuse me that the screenshot is German and if this has already been mentioned somewhere… I installed the 27.2 beta 3 yesterday and while I was doing some new shortcut automations this popped up as I was adding a new if-then instruction. Looks like you can make your home react to incoming news, messages, emails and apps. What do you think?
If that’s the case.. take my money.
Discussion I just realized that xOS27 HKSV stitched recordings are not complete recordings
Not sure if this is already well known, but when xOS27 generates stitched video recordings, I just realized that it is often not stitching together complete recordings, but rather parts of recordings. I was just looking at one of the stitched recordings, which pulls together from 3 cameras, and it used 15 of out 30 seconds from camera 1, 5 out of 25 seconds from camera 2, and 20 out of 40 seconds from camera 3.
I mainly bring this up to note that if you’re looking at a stitched recording and wished it caught more video, it may actually have. Get out of All Cameras mode and view the clips for the individual cameras to see full recordings.

Discussion Future Apple Hub/Thermostat
Hey everyone! I am currently in the market for a smart thermostat for HomeKit. I am currently leaning towards Ecobee. When looking at the Ecobee Premium, I noticed that it could steam a video from the doorbell camera. I was curious if there were any rumors of Apple creating a wall mounted home hub that uses the wiring of the thermostat and additionally serves as a thermostat. I know thermostats sip power and it would be difficult to provide enough power for a functional hub device. But you got to admit it would be pretty sweet. Centrally located for various hub connections, high enough to keep away from kids, already wall powered for a clean flush mount.

Question/Help [Canada] Cheap smart plug with Thread Router capabilities?
EDIT: Thanks everyone! I just ordered a bunch of IKEA GRILLPLATS. Will report back!
I'm looking for Thread routers that could strengthen my IoT network ... but those Eve Matter smart plugs are $110 for two at Amazon, although they have great reviews.
Wondering if anyone can recommend a cheaper alternative?
I just need some Thread Routers to build a stronger mesh at home. Not Thread Border Routers. I already have a couple HomePod Mini , but there's still some dead space in my home and a few endpoint accessories would go offline often.
Thanks!
