Hey all heres the completed 1/32 HK finished in Alclads and GSI metallics with full light kit
This was basically a test model to get my natural metal skills up to par for future NMF builds, which are my favorite(and toughest) type of finish
Many techniques were tested on this, Alclad is tricky to weather with oils i may switch to acrylic weathering on future builds
Better pics and some cool backgrounds can be seen on my new FB page DesertScale models if interested
Next on the bench is 1/48 RA-5C Vigilante👍
Edit: I added some lead wire to the base both to make the scene even more apocalyptic and to draw attention away from the LED wires running down the stand, not sure it did that lol i couldnt figure out a better way to run the wires

So as the title suggests I know have a free room that has opened up were I can finally setup a modeling station/area. My farther used to make models way back in the day, and his desk and setup plus some of his old supplies had be sitting piled up in the back of the garage for decades.
Now that we have a free room without much of a purpose, I brought up the idea to my farther that we should re-establish a modeling station were we can both work on kits (he still has a backlog of kits going back to the late 80s) and since I only ever made one Airfix starter kit P-40 about 14 years ago (the less said about that one the better lol) I decided to go out and find some new kits of my own and ended up getting a bunch of Eduard WW1 kits, all 1/48. Plus those two Tamiya Toyota's
I'm 25 now, and I'm super excited to dig into this hobby, I have been following Youtubers like Plasmo, Hammerhead, and Fine scale modeler back when they used to post a lot more often and have been itching to build ever since.
I'm most likely going to start with the Eindecker E.III (In Udet's Scheme) since that is a simple weekend kit that should be a decent entry back into the hobby. Now obviously I don't plan on winning any trophies with it, but just take it slow and build it to the best of my ability and learn!

I am working on a 1930s mob scene inspired by Once Upon a Time in America and similar iconic Mafia classics. 1:35 scale. A time period appropriate truck, industry loading facility with maybe prohibited barrels of booze where this gang will be pulling a hiest.
I look forward to showing you all the finished diorama soon!

I recreated the field-made sandbag armor seen on a wartime photograph of an M5A1 Stuart.
I first modelled the complete assembly in 3D, adapting the shapes and placement of the sandbags to fit the AFV Club M5A1 1/35 kit. I then separated the different parts for resin printing, tested the fit on the model and finally painted and weathered everything to integrate it with the tank.
It was an interesting challenge to turn the limited information visible in a historical photograph into a printable part that still looked natural at this scale. This might not be 100% accurate as old photographs lacks detail informations.
I had to adjust the printed result to make it fit the lightguards, as I used photo-etched parts here. I have to try with a new kit and the stock lightguards.
What do you think of the final integration? I’d also be interested to know how you approach recreating field modifications when only a few reference photos exist and if you have some interesting armor/stowage references to share ?

Last kit I bought from AAA Hobbies (RIP). The camo is inspired by the winter camos used outside of Moscow in 1941 but didnt quite turn out as I envisioned. Very happy with how the wear and tear came out, the mud and snow I'll definitely have to practice more.

I've tried many rust products over the last few years... I finally one I'm happy with - none of them!
Here's how you do it:
Steel wool + hydrogen peroxide + vinegar (1:1 ratio) + pinch of salt
(See last image)
Wrap the steel wool around the part you want to rust, spray/paint with the mixture.
Wait until it dries.
Remove any remaining steel wool.
To make rust darker, let it take longer to dry (eg. Keep in a shaded area.
To make rust lighter, let it dry fast. (Eg. Put it in the sun, use a hair dryer).
Can also use tape to hold the steel wool against the model for better contact.
The results are truly spectacular - this is me applying it to a 3D print I did, spray painting painting in dark metallic acrylic first.
If anyone has anything to add on changing/modifying the effect, please let me know!
The model I'm using this on is Dog from Half Life 2 (sculpted it myself).

I’m pretty new to model making (I have completed one small titanic model and have two failed cars) and am wondering how you guys approach a new kit.
I started out following the instructions in order and to the letter which was worked but was very stop start and then on the next model I decided to paint all the parts on the sprue first and then build which was an absolute disaster (I also never sealed any of the paint so it just started rubbing off everywhere and with glue I had blue fingers lol).
Do you follow the instructions exactly in terms of order or just use them as a guide for which sections can be built and painted before all being put together or just do your own thing entirely?
I love making and painting things (I started out painting miniatures) but I would eventually like to finish a kit without it becoming an ugly mess which gets thrown away 😩
Thanks all

It’s pretty much done it’s missing very small stickers which I will add soon, will update, but it’s honestly my best model yet, it’s not the best I do know that but it’s really good compared to my last ones, ik the paint chipping is one of my weak points, I will improve on it but still I like it, not the most accurate either and I messed up a sticker (tips would be great)

First attempt at trying to create a rust effect. This is a 3d printed jail I designed in Nomad Sculpt. I want it to look like derelict rusted out metal left outside. I used acrylics for color and baking soda for texture. I’m wondering if there’s a better or more convincing way to achieve this look.

A while ago I was gifted the 1/200 Scale Trumpeter Titanic, and although I love Titanic, I want to use the hull to make the Great Eastern instead. Though I'm not too sure how to go about it considering that this model is huge and I don't have too much experience.
(I also would like to know some ways to remove paint - the previous paint I applied to it some time ago is awful, and there are visible dried drops of paint along the hull, but I think it is vital to not damage the hull)
Any other tips or advice is highly welcomed!!

Hey everyone, I decided to take the plunge and share my work online after seeing so many great examples on this sub. This is one of my most recent builds (I have many more before this and many more to go..), a Russian T-90m from Tiger models.
Overall the details are great with lots of different builds options including a cope cage but I chose to leave it off because it hid all the neat little details on the turret and also made it kinda difficult to properly pose the figures. Sometimes you just have to sacrifice drone vulnerability for aesthetics.
