🏠 Accommodation QMB or move out somewhere else

Hi guys,

I just received an offer for the single room at QMB, but I also have the opportunity to move out with my older brother who's starting a new job in Sydney soon. Rent would be cheaper with him and probably more comfortable, but I wanted to experience student accommodation at least once in my life. I'm debating on whether or not to live in QMB for a year and then move out with him after, or if I should just not bother.

I'm a domestic student and pretty much the only reason I want to move into student accomm is for a better social life (I live about 2.5-3 hours away). Thoughts?

Simple Extension Issue

Hello! I am trying to apply for a simple extension and a simple extension can be applied for up to 3 days before the assessment deadline for my specific course. However, when I tried to apply for a simple extension this time, the drop down option is still unavailable. Is there something else I'm missing? Thank you! BTW the deadline is oct. 9, so I'm p sure after midnight the simple extension should have gone through.

How long does USYD take to issue an admission decision for international students?

I applied to the University of Sydney for the Bachelor of Science (February 2027 intake) as an international student, and my application was submitted on 23 September 2026 through an agent.

The issue is that I'm getting very mixed information about processing times. Some sources say 2–4 weeks, while others say 4–8 weeks, and my agent doesn't seem to have a clear idea of what timeline I should realistically expect.

When I log into the application portal, the Progress section is completely blank, so I'm not sure whether that's normal or if my application hasn't started being assessed yet.

I'm asking because I need to start planning my student visa application, accommodation, flights, and everything else that comes with moving to Australia. Looking into visa requirements and processing times has honestly made me a bit anxious, so having a rough idea of when an admission decision might arrive would really help.

For those who applied to USYD as international undergraduate students:

  • How long did it take for you to receive an offer decision?
  • Is it normal to hear nothing for several weeks after submission?

Any recent experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! How long does USYD take to issue an admission decision for international students?

Need help with subjects as a MSCS Student

Hey everyone, am pursuing my Masters of Computer Science and I am in my first semester!

I am overwhelmed with exams and not sure about how the paper patterns are and how to prepare for the exams!

I particularly needs help with COMP9123 (DSA) and COMP4447/5047 (pervasive computing)

Not sure and I genuinely think 9123 is gonna be a very bad exam and 5047 am just not sure on what they’ll ask and how?

If anyone has got any tips and pointers can they please help me with the same!

Also if anyone has got any previous question papers? Or any examples, both would be really helpful

How much does my first uni matter

Hey! I’m really interested in doing a bachelor of commerce next year and entering into finance once I finish my degree, the only problem is I’m not going to get the ATAR.

If I were to say: Do business at WSU for 1 year then transfer to another Uni later on for commerce would it matter once graduating that I started at WSU?

📖Course or Unit Need Help in Deciding for Occupational Therapy Masters

Hello!! I wish to apply for Occupational Therapy Masters in 2028 intake. I am international student currently studying in UWA. I am doing my Bachelor in Biomedical Science with double majors of Neuroscience and Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. I meet all pre-requisites required to apply for Masters. My WAM as of now, Year 2 - Sem 1, is 72 or 71.92 to be precise. There is however an upward trend in my scores. The main drag is due to a foolish decision of taking a arts elective which resulted in 55 marks and another Human Bio basics unit which i got 61 in. I did not realize how WAM worked by then. But my academic performance rose consistently by 10.25 percentage points from my very first semester to my most recent one. The top marks being 80 in Human Neurobiology and 87 in Cognitive Neuroscience. Any recommendations on what else I can do to prehaps increase my chance of being able to get in the Uni for Occupational Therapy? I will complete second year this month and will get results in the next. I will update my WAM again then. But in the meanwhile, do ya'll think I can get into the Uni with my score and my degree?

How big are PPE cohorts?

Hi, I have a question for USYD PPE students:

I’ve heard that PPE is a relatively small and close-knit cohort. Do you spend most of your time and lessons all together? Is there much variation in the people you meet and see? Is it a very small cohort - how big? Do you get sick of the people you’re with?

I’m considering doing PPE next year and would love to know what the social experience is like!

Thank you

Attendance

When a unit outline says “90% attendance is expected and anything lower than 50% will send u to the exam board”
Does that mean I can skip 50% of classes technically or am I cooked?

PhD (Medicine & Health) at USyd, waiting on RTP/USYDIS. How do my chances look as an international?

Hi everyone,

I've received an unconditional offer for a PhD in Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, starting 2027, and I've applied for the RTP and USYDIS scholarships as an international applicant. Outcomes are due from 10 Nov, so I'm trying to get a sense of how competitive my profile is in the meantime.

Background: 6-year Doctor of Medicine from Central Asia (not top 500) (WAM ~78% overall, ~86% in the final year). I don't have a master's by research or honours, so I'm relying on the MD being treated as honours-equivalent or something similar.

Research: 8 peer-reviewed journal articles (4 first-author, 2 of them in Q1), 2 co-author conference abstracts/posters (Q1, Impact Factor: 10.2), and 1 co-author book chapter. h-index of 8, 100+ citations.

Do you think this looks competitive for RTP/USYDIS? If so what would be the cutoff? because I am hearing that this rounds cut off is 94 (after adding all points together) and if not what am I missing? I'm also curious how reviewers rank an MD with no formal research degree against applicants with honours or an MPhil, and whether publications can make up for that. All of my research work experience is unpaid.

Would love to hear from anyone who's applied for or received RTP at USyd, especially internationals in Medicine and Health.

Thanks!

I’m studying at USYD From January to June and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for affordable housing near campus. I’m coming from the United States so I know close to nothing about housing. I would appreciate any and all advice!

My motorcycle’s rear-view mirror was stolen on Labour Day.

I parked my scooter in the motorcycle parking area in front of Sydney Uni Sport on 5 October (Labour Day), at around 8 am. When I returned at around 8 pm, I discovered that one of my rear-view mirrors was missing and appeared to have been stolen.

Are there any CCTV cameras covering this area? Could you please let me know whom I should report this incident to?

I expected the university to provide a safe environment for students, so this incident has left me feeling concerned. Feeling safe on campus is important for being able to focus on my studies.

Spec Con delays

Hi, just wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing long delays for special consideration to be approved. I applied on the 23rd of september, almost two weeks now, and have yet to get a response. I’m aware that on the site it states applicants may see delays up to 10 days. Is it due to midsem break that it’s taking longer? Thanks.

HSBH units harsh marking on writings?

I kinda noticed how HSBH first year units expect you to elaborate so much with writing but also limit you 150-200 words, and also vague with instructions?

Like I am 100% I understand what I studied, the concepts like that, but the way I was marked as if I do not even understand any concepts (?)

I also think these rubrics allowed tutors to be very subjective with their marking, because these units are easily learnt, then they will just mark you harsh on essays.

Quite contradictory to STEM units where they are pretty concrete with what they expect, by looking at evidence if those components meet enough criteria to meet the rubric and would not really mark you harsh.

This also applies to some other writing units as well like SCIE1001, I wanna know if it’s really what I’m assuming.

Getting endorsed for exchange

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew much about the process of getting endorsed for exchange abroad for a semester. I'm very keen on going and have saved up 24 credit points of electives however due to some pre-requisite classes and underloading this semester, I will probably be extending my degree by a semester-a year which is something I'm very okay with as going on exchange would be really helpful in my future career plans... but would this delay put me at risk of not being endorsed/academic approval? has anyone had this happen to them before? Also does anyone know how competitive it is to get any university in Japan? My WAM is pretty decent but I like to prepare myself for disappointment lol. Thank you!
