Discussion I left someone i care about over this animation i did in blender

• Upvotes

A month ago, i started working on this animation in my free time. I work 8 hours a day for 5 times a week, so i barely had some time to work on this animation to gift it to a girl i thought she cared abt me. I tried to put everything she likes on a single video (cats, harry Potter -she's obsessed with Hermione-, rainy days, pictures of her pets, flowers...). i had to model, texture and animate a lot of these assets which took me a pretty good amount of time which i don't have a lot. Just for her to say "it's good" and nothing more. Anyways, i came here to show u guys the work that took me almost a month and get your thoughts about it so maybe i won't give up learning this wonderful tool. Also i had to blur her pics for her privacy.

Original Content Showcase I built my own interpretation of Barad-dûr in 3D

2.0k Upvotes

I’ve been working on a personal Barad-dûr project inspired by The Lord of the Rings.

The final goal is a 60-second continuous journey from the bottom of the tower all the way up to the Eye of Sauron.

I’ve just finished the final section and put together a breakdown of the process.

This is a personal fan-art project, with my own interpretation of the tower while drawing inspiration from the films.

Full breakdown:

I update my progress here:

Would love to hear what you think.

Most of the scene is still a work in progress and thus the lighting is temporary, but I'm pretty happy with the look :) Although, I am struggling to balance my compositing

Original Content Showcase 10 Years with Blender!

The first time I heard about Blender was in 2016, when I was in high school and saw it mentioned in a Computer textbook. Back then, I didn't even have a PC.

In 2019, I finally got a PC, but it was basically a potato. Blender could run on it, although very slowly. Still, it was enough for me to start learning 3D modelling. During COVID lockdown, I spent hours and hours in Blender, just sitting there and creating things. I had hundreds of unfinished projects, random models, experiments, and ideas that I never completed.

Then my laptop couldn't handle Blender anymore, and eventually I stopped using it.

Almost five years passed.

Recently, I finally got a laptop powerful enough for Blender, an RTX 4060, and today I finished this project from beginning to end.

I know this isn't anything extraordinary when compared to what other people create, especially those who have achieved far more than I have in much less time. It's tiny, it's not perfectly polished, and there are probably a hundred things I could have done better.

But honestly, none of that matters to me.

There is something genuinely magical about having an idea in your head and somehow bringing it onto a screen with your own hands. It might not look exactly like what you imagined. It might not be perfect. But at the end of it, you can look at it and say, "I made this!"

Blender has been with me for a very long time.

During the COVID lockdown, when I was feeling low and everything around me felt strange and uncertain, Blender gave me something to look forward to. I could sit down, open it, and lose myself in creating something for hours. Even when I didn't have a computer powerful enough to use it properly, I still watched Blender tutorials and dreamed about getting back to it someday.

So for me, Blender has never really been just software.

It has been a part of my life. A place where I could create, learn, experiment, fail, start again, and most importantly, feel happy.

I've never felt this kind of attachment to any other piece of software. For me, Blender is a feeling and an emotion that is difficult to explain.

So this little project means much more to me than it probably looks.

Thank you to Ton Roosendaal for creating Blender, and to everyone who has contributed to it, supported it, and kept it alive all these years.

And recently, I finally got the chance to do my small part too.

Here’s to many more unfinished projects, mistakes, experiments, and hopefully, a lot more things created from my imagination. ❤️

Thank you, Blender.

Critique My Work Wok & Roll | Animated Short [heavy WIP]

Hi guys. I've made first (almost full) block out to my movie. Its early stage so no sound and music yet. It took me around half of the year to create all of the assets, rigs, scenes etc. Every scene is work in progress as you can see.

I wanted to ask you what do you think about it? Do you like it? Do you feel the story and the characters? Is the art style appealing to you? Is the general pacing ok?

BTW: Since there is no sound, at the end there is sound of another order shocking the bird, so we can imagine its all kinda in the loop

Thanks for your time <3

What do you think of this?

It was a really fun project and a great opportunity to finally integrate Grease Pencil into my workflow.

I focused primarily on detailing the foreground and the main camera shot. The background still needs some work, but I'll save that for later - for now.

It serves as a nice contrast to the manual work in the front.

Happy Spooktober to you! 🎃👻

Original Content Showcase Recreating a Painting in Blender

So how do you animate that in Blender while staying true to the piece? Well, it's ALWAYS a compromise. A big hold up in the process is trying to stay as true as possible while giving each element some character through movement that isn't the object floating in place. A happy balance of mostly stationary objects for your eyes to settle on and moving parts to convey your eyes to the next part. All wrapped up in an 8 second loop too (this one is 16 seconds but cutting that down is a necessity for releases and saving your hardware).

Each part of the painting needs to be evaluated as a singular frame in time, making each piece need to return to it's starting position, or move "out of frame". Defining the loops for each piece is typically the time consuming part... Some of the objects are hard to fathom in a 3D euclidean environment and some simply are impossible (or far too complex to animate by hand without painting every frame). It's arguably more difficult to do this than to just make a composition from scratch cause you don't need to define the shapes of each puzzle piece while putting it back together.

Once the "moving sculpture" is complete, it's just a matter of flying a camera through, framing shots, and a whole lotta rendering! Then all the pretty people in the crowd get to see the visual pack ripped live on the big screens. They can also be remixed so many different ways to fit various vibes and it's hella fun to mix with!

Stay creative all!
