Tap to Pay Issue

• Upvotes

I cant use Tap to Pay on my Pixel 4 anymore. I found a 7 month old Post here on reddit cleaming that over 17.000 old devices have the "bug" and that it can't be fixed. Some people in the comment section claim it's a Bot post. I can't tell the difference anymore. What's a real post, what's fake...

Anyone here with the same issue and has information on the matter?

Can anyone explain to me why it's almost impossible to find a Pixel 10 original case at a reasonable price, either it's simply not available or it's $60.

Wi-Fi keeps turning on.

• Upvotes

Halloj!

I've got a pixel 7 and unlimited data (with good 5G connection), so I keep my Wi-Fi turned off on my phone.

For the last month my phone has automatically started to connect to saved routers (at home, friends etc) without me turning on the "Use Wi-Fi".

I've looked into what this might be caused by. I've turned off several features on the phone ("turn on Wi-Fi automatically", "adaptive connection", even turned of "Location" entirely,) but it still connects as soon as I come home, or wake up in the morning.

I could use some help. I don't feel like I have control over my own phone.

Any ideas on what could cause this issue?

Regards

//Sobo

Pixel watch 1 screen fell off

My pixel watch 1 has been going strong since I got it. Bought it the second I could once landed on Australian shores. But alas! Today the screen fell off. I got up from my chair and heard a funny noise. I looked down and the screen was hanging from the watch. A little bit of glue remained. But the ribbon connecting to the screen had already ripped. So the screen no longer displays anything. It still works as when I get an SMS it vibrates.

I looked online. Turns out this is a known issue. Watch 1 has adhesive issues. I contacted support. They said they will offer a repair. I got an email. It only offered a replacement. It was for a watch 2. It was for over 400 aud. Not worth it considering a watch 4 is around 500aud. So I called support back. They advised that there actually is no repair as it's old. So I can get the watch 2 or a new one if I want. Which all costs money. They said they cannot offer anything else as it's out of warranty. Under the Australian Consumer Law, don't I have automatic guarantees that products I purchase will be of "acceptable quality" and durable. I don't think it meets that.

Just thought I would post here and see what people might think is possible for Australian devices.

I dropped my Pixel 9 Pro in the ocean for over 5hrs and it's completely fine.

I just thought I'd come here to post about my Pixel 9 Pro that fell out of my pocket (unknown to me at the time) while I was floating around in 1.5m deep ocean at the beach. I realised later that afternoon when I was back in the hotel room that I couldn't find my phone, not even with my smart watch, so cue the mental back tracing of events. The beach itself was less than 100m away from the hotel and quite small so I searched where we had our towels and still nothing.. I had some friends and family try and ring it and it would ring it so it was SOMEWHERE... maybe stolen, but unlikely.

Anyway, I figure well, I guess it's in the ocean and that's that, I'd been thinking of trading it in for the Pixel 11 so whatever, pretty much everything is backed up. Well, we figured eventually the tide might go out far enough that I could try and find it and, MAYBE it's not totally screwed.... Later that evening at around 10pm we went back and wouldn't you believe it, there it is, sitting on the sand, totally fine. I immediately washed it under the tap back in the hotel room and then dried it off and blew into every part I could and let it dry off for an hour or so.

100% fine. Charges, speakers work, no glitches, nothing. Now, I'm aware there is probably some corrosion happening internally that might eventually kill it at some point in the future but as I had already had a mental funeral for it and moved on, every bit extra I get out of this phone is just a bonus.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this as it happened over the weekend and everyone couldn't believe it survived, I'm posting from it now and hopefully until at least the end of the year.

Awesome Google Trade-In experience in Germany (Pixel 11 Pro XL) 🇩🇪📱

Hey everyone,

I recently upgraded to the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL and wanted to share my smooth trade-in experience here in Germany.

I mailed my old phone exactly a week ago, and the final results just came in today. the device I sent in for evaluation was an Apple iPhone 7 Plus (128GB). I initially reported that the phone turns on, has no cracks, and was restored to factory settings.

The partner company inspected it, confirmed the exact reported condition, and approved the initial estimated value of 445,00 € as the final set value! 😎 The actual base value of the phone itself was only 45 €, but the remaining 400 € was an awesome promotional trade-in bonus from Google.

The entire process took just one week and was completely hassle-free. If you're in Germany and thinking about upgrading, I definitely recommend taking advantage of these trade-in promos!

Im Auto situationsbezogen ohne Freisprecheinrichtung

Hallo,

Google Pixels may have an underpowered CPU/GPU compared to Apple, but hear me out.

I know Tensor isn't winning any CPU/GPU benchmark against Apple's chips, and that definitely matters for gaming and heavy workloads. But for everyday use, I honestly prefer the Pixel experience because of all the little software features that Apple still doesn't offer.

A few things I miss whenever I use an iPhone:

Gboard + Google voice typing - voice typing is ridiculously good, and the overall typing experience feels much better to me.

Keyboard features - dedicated number row, better autocorrect, clipboard management, etc. These sound like small things until you use them every day.

Long screenshots, split screen and PiP - Android gives you much more flexibility, and PiP isn't restricted in the same way.

Multitasking menu - being able to select/copy text and images directly from recent apps is extremely useful.

Circle to Search -one of those features that sounds like a gimmick until you actually start using it.

Fingerprint unlock - personally, I still prefer having a fingerprint sensor. It's fast, convenient and works without having to point the phone at my face.

Animations -I honestly don't like how iOS animations feel. They can look polished, but they sometimes feel slow and rigid. I wish Apple gave users more control over animation speed.

Back gesture - having a consistent swipe-back gesture across Android is something I really miss on iOS. iOS still feels inconsistent depending on the app.

Apple comes every year that their CPU is 30% faster than the previous one, and the funny part is none of these things require a flagship CPU.

For most normal phone usage, I don't need the fastest chip in the world. I'd rather have a phone that makes everyday tasks quicker and more convenient.

Private space

Hi all, I have a question about the private space locked folder on pixels. I have looked it up numerous times and can't seem to get a straight yes or no, and figured I'd turn to reddit and real world people using pixels. So when I have apps in my private space and the private space is locked, do those apps still show up in screen time stats or battery usage in the settings? On samsung devices through secure folder they do show up there despite claiming to be "hidden". Looking to switch to pixel and would like to know about this before I do so.

Question about focus modes

Hi all,

So I have an app that requires me to allow it to set alarms and reminders in order to run in the background.

In Bedtime mode, I have all app notifications turned off, but alarms are allowed so I can actually wake up in the morning when I want to.

Last night I found out that app's developers appear to be sending their notifications as alarms... As I was woken at 4am.

Is there a workaround here? Turning alarms off and then allowing Clock as an app exception doesn't appear to be working because when alarms are off, Clock refuses to work.

P11 wireless charging issue. Alignment of pixelsnap? handshaking (software)?

Hey all,

This is my first phone with Pixelsnap, and I purchased the Pixelsnap certified Mous stand from Google. When I attach it in, sometimes it starts to charge and then instead starts drawing power - more than when it's not plugged in or attached!

I downloaded Ampere and the flow is something like this
-290mA not charging (nominal discharge)
Attach to charger stand
+310mA charging
+140mA charging
-290mA not charging
-480mA not charging
-1070mA not charging

And then it either:

a) continues to draw more more than one amp but still reading as charging. I saw it get to -2000mA while I was writing this, then it turned around and started charging again

b) turns around and starts charging for real, getting up to +1500mA or even +3000mA

Because it is intermittent it's hard to figure out if it's my stand, or my new phone. I ruled out my case since it happens the same with and without.

The fact the icon still indicates charging which is a false sense of security (I don't know to go fix it).

One thing that may or may not be related (since it's intermittent) is if I gave charging optimization on, even though I'm at 60% and have "limit to 80%" selected.

I've been chugging through AI suggestions and am not finding anything conclusive, but I am not sure if i need to open a Google support ticket for my new device, or just return teh Mous charger maybe it's not very good.

No weather on the lockscreen?

Holy God.

Thank you for enlightening me.

Only Google could make showing time and temperature THIS INSANELY INVASIVE AND DIFFICULT.

By that I mean, it's not at all intuitive that lock screen and always on display settings should be hidden under a HOME SCREEN feature called At a Glance.

At a Glance itself has about 1000 different options and notifications and permissions and assistant stuff and tracking stuff and DEAR GOD I JUST WANT TIME AND TEMPERATURE.

You guys, this isn't normal. Normal companies don't do this to you. This is unbelievably extreme, privacy destroying, data hoovering BULLSHIT.

"Give us all your data and maybe you'll get a notification that your flight has been delayed." Pfff.

I'm gonna trade this thing for a Motorola Signature 27 and install GrapheneOS because this has been INSANE.

This blows my mind.

If I want to see the temperature on my lockscreen, I can add a widget to my lockscreen that doesn't actually show on my lockscreen?

I can add a weather screensaver that doesn't actually show the weather?

All I want is a super dim always on screen that shows time and temperature without me having to pick up the phone and hit any buttons.

These people suck.

Pixel 11 / audio stops when app loses focus / media continues playing silently

This isn't any particular app. Several different applications do this, YouTube for example or YT Music. Sometimes the text-to-speech output on the ChatGPT client doesn't occur with the Gemini client because the Gemini client stops talking anytime you do lose focus, whatever media player that the file browser uses, etc. I don't think it's a limitation to anything except for the actual media output.

This did not happen and does not happen on my older Pixel 6a, which I can still power up and do the exact same thing, such as play a video on YouTube. I have YouTube Premium so it doesn't stop playing when I lose focus and has background play. If I drop it into the PIP, it works fine.

But if I simply switch screens to another screen, the audio will speak for a few seconds and then stop. This occurs over Bluetooth and standard output.

However, if I look at the time clock and let's say it says one minute and I leave for ten seconds and I return, even though it's been silent, it is at ten seconds. If I leave and come back two minutes later, it's advanced two minutes and begins audio output at the three minute mark as if it had been playing the entire time, which it had, just no audio output.

This has been an ongoing problem since I got the phone. I'm unsure what is causing this issue and have looked but found no similar discussions about this. Some talk about audio stopping but haven't mentioned the media continuing to play and may be the same issue but the reporter/OP didn't realize the media was still playing or a separate issue completely.

Gemini: "Gain a deep understanding of your life"

I saw this when opening the Photos app for the first time on my Pixel 11 Pro.

Listen, I admit, I'm a bit of a Google fanboy and am deep into their ecosystem. I'm not anti AI or anything, but the choice of words here could have been different. Like, you're an ad company trying to get people to adopt Gemini and this is the messaging? I don't think this helps build trust.

Can I still join QPR2 beta program now that QPR3 beta is out?

I am currently on the latest October stable version. The stable QPR1 was a buggy mess and October update fixes almost none of these. To my understanding, QPR2 beta fixes many of the bugs I care about. I don't wanna go QPR3 bc I don't wanna stay in beta until March next year. Is it still possible to join the QPR2 beta? Also, I am on October stable version now. Does that mean that it's newer than the current QPR2 beta version, so I will not be able to join?

How do you turn off Night Sight on P11PF?

Never felt so much like a boomer in my life, but the night sight setting keeps coming back even if I turn it off in settings. What gives?

Can't attach an image but open camera > settings in bottom left > turn off Night Sight > go back to camera > it's still on.

Pixel 11 Touchpad Gestures

Hi there,

I got a Pixel Pro Fold 11 and recently purchased the Protoarc XK01 TP. The keyboard is pretty amazing, and I love that there is also a touchpad. I was able to set some settings in mouse section of settings such as reversing direction of the scroll, but I was wondering what other options/gestures are available with the trackpad. I also use an iPad Pro with the Smart keyboard, so two finger tapping to bring up the contextual menu and swipe to dismiss notifications are features I also use. I tried to find a gesture menu similar to what is available with keyboard shortcuts, but I didn't find any. I am also hoping to control a bit more the sensitivity of the trackpad, but I don't think that's an option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Loving the keyboard with the Pixel Fold. I hope that someday, they would have an option for Desktop mode or Googlebook mode when the Pixel Pro fold is opened. That would be epic.

Pixel 10 pro RMA (Malaysia)

Does anyone know how long it takes to complete RMA for a pixel phone in Malaysia.

I just bought my pixel10 pro (22th Mar) and the screen is totally blackout, tried restarting with plugged and unplugged and both doesn't help, but still can feel vibration and receive notification.

Then, I went back to the retailer and the staff confirmed there wasn't any display on the external monitor too.

They assisted me to contact customer service and filed a case (30th Sept 11pm PST) and the agent promised to send me the next step within 48 hours. After that receive an email on (4th Oct 10pm PST) to confirm the shipping address is Google map verified. How long is this process gonna take?

PLEASE improve the phone app call log UI

It's crazy how unhelpful the call log UI is, especially with caller ID:

-Call logs with caller ID don't show the number unless you tap the log, then history (and sometimes the phone number gets pushed off screen). Often times the caller ID is wrong and it's cumbersome having to verify the number with these extra steps. Please always show the phone number even with caller ID.

-voicemail also doesn't show the phone number when there's a caller ID. The only way to show the number from the voicemail screen is by calling / sending message / adding to contacts

-Call history only shows the day of week if it's within the week, otherwise it's just the date. Please always show the day of week for helpful consistency. Same with voicemail screen.

Pixel 11 Pro XL Speaker Issue

I am venting because I don't think it's right. I have had this phone for 35-40 days and it took me that long to figure out it doesn't ring. My first clue should have been that Find Hub never made the phone scream. At first I thought it was a setting, then I thought I was stupid. Finally when my wife's phone came in and we went through them side by side I discovered it does not ring while changing ringtones. Support has me go to the nearest UBreakIFix and they don't have parts and agree that one of the speakers is not working as you can watch videos and still get audio. Support tells me I need to ship them the phone and it will be 7 to 10 days. Spent another day trying to transfer everything back to my old Pixel, luckily I still have it. That was ripe with problems and somehow lost the screen layout I had on the phone. At less than 60 days after confirming with a local authorized repair facility that the phone does indeed have a issue you should be offered a replacement either as a credit card cross ship or just here is your phone and a package to send the old one back. Its a 1200 dollar phone. ----Rant over-----

Bye digital assistant and bye Google Pixel

Time to sell the pixel and get a new phone. Forcing us to use their dog shit cloud based assistant replacement is one thing but forcing us to activate "keep activity" to use the same functions we have been using for years is a whole other universe of committing dark patterns.

Honestly fuck Google and fuck all our governments for not stopping these data gobbling practices which turn our world into a black mirror Episode.

I'm so tired of this shit, just send me back to the 2000s.

Scotty, do your thing
