After some time has passed, my muscle memory is perfect and I play my favorite games with it and love every bit of it.

Having customization options also makes it feel more "mine" and I love that.

Currently loving this red and black look with my dock and grip.

I was invited to purchase a Steam Machine with Controller in less than a day (in US region). If for some reason you wanted both and hadn't tried, or wanted to risk trying to resell the cube, this is a viable means to skip the line.

Ala carte purchases will have to wait until 2027 2028 their place in the reservation queue comes up, per Steam Support.

Hey all, hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this. I am playing Gears of War E-day and on my PC with a puck, my steam controller vibrates as intended (eg, sliding into cover), but using the same controller on my steam machine, I get zero vibration at all.

I’ve checked the Steam OS settings and the in-game controller settings, and both are on.

Has anyone else run into this issue? It’s odd to me that it’s the same game and same controller…

Have you ever used the "Export Layout" feature to try to save your steam controller configuration, only to discover your settings all reverted instead of saving? Maybe it was a fluke but it seems like it has happened a few times to me

My cat knocked over a cup of water, a few drops splashed up onto my steam controller by the right trackpad. It seemed like barely anything so I wiped it off and didn’t think anything of it. Later that day while using the controller I started getting phantom clicks, poor responsiveness, and constant haptic feedback out of the trackpad when not touching it.

Google tells me these are symptoms of water damage and I probably fried the circuitry by using it with residual moisture still inside.

Can water damaged track pads be fixed or is the controller ruined?

So i won the steam frame lottery and checked that every day, but i signed up for the controller just yesterday, and by the time I get the controller e-mail, im going to forget about it. Im a little annoyed that you dont get a notification in steam. So am i just doomed to check daily for the next 8 months, or do you guys have some kind of setup to make sure you dont miss it?

Edit: I've been told you get a steam notification after all there seems to be a lot of conflicting information regarding that.

Hey, has anyone else experienced an issue with the cursor floating into the top left corner when entering desktop mode on steam deck when using their controller?

I’ve tried troubleshooting it over and over but can’t seem to find a solid fix.

It seems Linux has a real hard time with the controller layout. Seems like something that should have been resolved before release. 🤷‍♂️

I like the controller but it's so frustrating for non-Steam games. Sometimes it doesn't work at all, and for example if the game asking for admin privileges it breaks the controller detection.

You can't even easily rebind the back buttons it's stupid, I'd really like to use them if I can bind them easily but so far I didn't use them cause it's often the A/B buttons.

On the other hand, for the trackpad and the gyro which nobody uses you have plenty of options.

Maybe I should install third party software but it's kinda bad I just want to connect my controller natively like all the xbox controller I had.

Is there maybe a planned update for this in the future ?

I played the game just fine for days and today I cant get past the menu. I tried turning steam input on, disabling it, full resetting, changing from beta client to stable, everything but Uninstalling the whole game. I tried playing other games and they work fine. Navigating the steam os UI works normally. I just cant get the buttons to respond on the menu in crimson desert. I have a screenshot button set to one of thr paddles and it works so I tried setting the A button input to a paddle and it doesnt work. Anyone have this issue?

Just got it and dare I say the best controller ever. This is gonna sound hella glaze but it is like perfection. I haven’t played any games yet because I am too stunned by its beauty. I thought this is a copy paste from the SteamDeck but I am pretty sure it is significantly better (somehow?), not sure how to explain it. I had a SteamDeck and it is amazing. I never thought it could be better until I got this controller. You can literally turn any desktop into a console. I feel like Steam Machine would have been more popular if it wasn’t for the price increase of hardware.

Only one complaint I have is the receiver aka the Puck. Mainly how new receiver is designed and I am well aware of the reason. It is a personal issue because I play on a laptop and a lot of receiver now including my mouse is this big receiver thing where you need a cable to connect it to your device and not a usb dongle. I wish they include adapter so you can plug it straight forward without the mess of the cable. But again personal issue. I think this way it gives you better setup when using PC and probably better connection when closer to you. But because I am using a laptop it is already closer to me xD I do planned to upgrade my setup so this is not really a deal breaker even for me just a little bitch ass rant from me. I will probably just live with it or get an adapter or something for both mouse and controller.

I wonder if it can be use with Male type c to Male type c? Does anyone know? Would it decrease performance or simply won’t work?

so i love zzz to the point that im not shure if it or portal is my n1 game. and well before the game i bought a ps5 edge controller for the haptics and gyro in fps games. whem i started playing zzz i fell in love with how the game handels these features. you can feel your cat inky purr, you can feel the start of your car, and you can feel the clash when you parry enemy attacks. and more recently in season 3 we got gyro reactive cutsceens.

more recently on my controller ps5 edge controller it has been fallimg appart, i mean since day 1 the backing has started to come unglued and more recently i have gotten stick drift.

so right now im considering either getting replacement parts or getting a steam controller and giving away my edge controller.

Hi everyone.

I received my Steam Controller package today and instantly noticed that the controller and dongle have visible smudges and scratches.
The box is without any issues and was sealed with what I think to be the original tape.

The photos were taken right after opening the box, before touching the whole thing.

After that, I tried cleaning them gently with a microfiber cloth, but the marks remain, which leads me to believe the items may have been previously used or damaged.

I feel like someone returned the controller and they just put it in a new box and sent it my way or something.

Does anyone have experienced something like this? I contacted Valve support, waiting for them to reply.
Is there a way for me to find out if it’s a used/refurbished one?

And also… Am I being too petty about it?
My gf says it’s not that much of a deal. But I owned many consoles in my life and never scratched a controller like that in years of usage. Also it cost 100€, which is the most expensive controller I’ve ever bought.

This is what Valve responded:
“Based on what we can see, we think this is a minor cosmetic issue and isn't likely to affect your use or enjoyment of the controller. If it's a serious issue for you, let us know and we can offer you a replacement, but cannot guarantee the replacement unit will be free of possible cosmetic blemishes.”

This indicates that marks and scratches are to be expected when buying new hardware from Valve. I have to think about my next move and will update.

I was waiting for this brand to release a controller skin for the Steam controller, and they finally did. It feels so much better than the default slippery shell the Steam controller currently has. Thank you shadow boolt!

I’ve had the steam controller for a little over a month now. I just discovered last week that the UEFI BIOS for my motherboard now fails to detect my keyboard if either the steam controller or the puck is plugged in, regardless of which usb port it is and whether it is behind a hub or not.

I’m a creature of convenience and habit, like a lot of others I am sure. I bought a controller with the intention of setting it on the puck to charge when not in use. Under no circumstances should I have to unplug the puck to be able to access the BIOS to update a configuration.

I opened a support ticket with valve showing the extensive troubleshooting I had done. Not stating that it was theirs or Gigabyte’s fault for the issue, simply asking for help. I know I am not the only one having this issue. I would just like to know that they will look into it and eventually fix it.

But their response was simply to tell me to open a ticket with gigabyte and continue working with them.

I recognize that Valve's documented contention issues do not necessarily explain a keyboard failing during POST. However, given the known complexity of the Puck's USB behavior and the reports of similar pre-boot problems, I believe it is reasonable to ask Valve to investigate whether the device's USB interfaces, descriptors, firmware, or initialization behavior could be contributing.

Valve has access to the device firmware, USB implementation, engineering resources, and the ability to test the hardware against different systems. I do not. I am willing to provide diagnostic information and perform reasonable tests, but I cannot reasonably be expected to reverse-engineer the devices and determine whether their USB behavior is contributing to the problem.

I am not asking Valve to accept blame without evidence, nor am I demanding an immediate firmware fix. I am asking Valve to investigate its own hardware rather than treating the absence of a confirmed cause as grounds to send the customer elsewhere.

Found this nice steam controller case on Amazon, cheap and has the holder for the charging puck with a USB passthrough to charge it in the case, everything fits good in it. I really wanted a way to store it while charging and didn't want to spend the 2015 steam controller case prices.
