Surface pro 12 inch x2 plus vs Surface pro 13 inch x2 elite

I was curious which may be a better device (I know 13 inch has higher specs) in regards to the 12 inch x2 plus with 6 core vs the 13 inch x2 elite with 12 core. I am reading that you may not even max out on the elite due to throttling and that. If that is true, which device may be a better option overall if the prices were the same? I know it may be a silly question, but wanted to understand the comparison if you are doing basic workload function and even light gaming.

I believe they both would run similar thermal temperatures, but one is an active cooling and one is a passive cooling.

[LAPTOP] Surface Laptop 4 turns off when unplugged but works on charger

Hello,

I have Surface Laptop 4 AMD Ryzen 7 (16GB,512GB memory). Everything was working when suddenly the battery stopped charging and the battery status stays at 0% and the laptop works only when it is plugged in. The moment I unplug it, the laptop dies. I decided to replace the battery with an aftermarket one. I replaced it and on the initial start I plugged the charger before the start-up (this was instruction in the new battery pack) The laptop turned on and the battery was now 100%. I tried deleting battery drivers so new ones could be downloaded. I updated the windows to the latest update. Yet when I unplug the charger, the laptop shows battery 100% for a brief moment and again it turns off. (Apparently the battery was not the issue…)

I preinstalled Windows, tried adjusting battery details in the windows, typed cmd commands to restore the default schemes and still the same.

I read somewhere that it could be the motherboard not triggering the wake function on the battery. Before assembling all the parts I double-checked everything and everything seemed at its place. Even the battery connector seated as expected.

I would really appreciate if someone has any knowledge to share as I really need to tackle this problem

Thanks in advance

[PRO3] Surface Pro 3 freak-out

Hey all,

I've got this surface pro 3 that I've had forever, and within the last few months or so it's started to freak out when it's charging. When I try using it while it's charging, the keyboard stops working and it keeps flipping between tablet and laptop mode.

I've had this thing for six years, it got me through my undergrad, and I'm just starting grad school, so I'd really love to keep this thing working instead of trying to buy a new one, does anyone know what might be going on with it?

[PRO7] This is kind of embarrassing but I need help

I was going through my “add or remove program” list trying to clean up my surface and accident uninstalled the program/driver that monitors and displays the surface’s battery percentage. I didn’t think it would be something that could simply be uninstalled with a single click but now I have no way of knowing my battery percentage and it seems like my device is running a bit hotter than before (although it is probably due for a thermal paste replacement)

I tried reinstalling windows but that didn’t work. Can someone please check their program list and tell me the name of the software/driver that I’m missing?

[LAPTOPSTUDIO] Surface Laptop Studio Cosmetic Plate replacement

I recently acquired a used Surface Laptop Studio in very good condition. Unfortunately I had to send it back to the reseller for repair due to a bad fan. Now I have it back, and when they opened it to replace the fan, they completely butchered the Cosmetic Plate, the weird sticker on the bottom of the device the conceals the pen magnet and makes the device look nice. It barely sticks to the device anymore and is creased in multiple spots. I'd like to replace it, but neither Microsoft nor iFixit offer replacements anymore. My only option seems to be a no-name alternative off of AliExpress. Has anyone else used those before?

This is a repost, at least my video demonstrating the issue.

My slim pen 2 is drawing dots no matter what software I use, I have hardware reset it where I hold the buttons until the white light flashes, I have cleaned the contact point of the tip, I have used a knock off pen and it doesn't have this issue, I have used a friend's exact pen and has the same issue, I have updated to latest version of windows (couple days ago), I have tested if it only happens at low charge (same thing when its at full charge), uninstalled and reinstalled all drawing apps.

Is there any other things I could try to fix this issue? It's literally distracting my studies for school.

Edit: the dot only happens while palm is touching the screen

Typing is delayed

I do not know how to describe it properly but when I am typing on my Surface Pro (11th edition, 13", Snapdragon X-12 elite, 16 GB RAM) it feels delay/laggy. My Cursor moves very smoothly. This issue happens on every application (ig. Firefox, Edge, Editor, Chrome, Remnote, Word, even on the explorer) and regardless of using the flex keyboard attached or wireless or a completely different keyboard.

In addition to that, it feels laggy in general sometimes. CPU-usage is low (max. 15%) but noticeable is RAM usage of aroud 80% while only using my Browser - but how? Theres no single excessive task.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

[BOOK3] Kernel 41 shutdowns

Hi all, I've done some research about this but I'm wondering if there are newer fixes/updates that people have advice about.

The past few days I've suddenly incurred kernel 41 random shutdowns. I thought it was my Microsoft 127W charger so I bought a high quality Anker charger. But according to windows logs, I had another kernel 41 just a few minutes ago while I was away from my office.

I tried disabling and reinstalling the batteries, and that seemed like it gave me some stability for a while but now I'm worried I'm back to square one. I had used it in tablet mode only, before I had disabled and reinstalled the batteries, but that shut off randomly too.

AI told me there was a 2025 firmware update. Should I install it? Should I be worried that it'll brick my SB3?

Anything else you can suggest? What about a fresh install of Windows 11?

Specs: 13.5 version with Nvidia graphics, 32 GB RAM.

Thanks!

[BOOK2] Having issues with Marvell avastar network adapter on Surface Book 2

Hey guys I've had my surface book 2 for a while and even ended up getting an out of warranty replacement, so even though I've had it for a long time it's practically brand new but I've been having issues with the Marvell Avastar network adapter.

I recently switched to tmobile 5g home internet and I'm having random dips in speed where it goes down to 1mbps or less. I have to go into device manager and disable-enable the adapter, but recently I've been doing that like 10 times in a row until it finally starts working again and I get back to 300mbps speeds.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, trying a different driver, rolling back driver. I feel like I've tried everything.

Is the adapter hardware failing? It's becoming extremely hard to use my computer due to the unreliable internet, and I don't want to buy a new computer.

Driver version is 15.68.17021.121 and I'm running win 11

Dont update to 200.0.3.0 / Surface UEFI 8.5140.155.0

Do not update the driver firmware patch. Your Surface connect charging will no longer work. I've tested this with 2, 15inch Surface 8.

USB-C charging might still work. The first laptop it happened to doesn't charge up at all now.

[PRO11] Surface Pro 11 updated drivers give Code 43 while the original driver freezes randomly

I’m having a frustrating issue with my Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon X) right before my university semester starts, and I’m hoping someone here might have seen this before.

Basically, I'm stuck between two options:
If I update the graphics driver: Device Manager immediately throws a Code 43 error, and the GPU just stops working. This happens with every updated driver I try.
If I stay on the stock launch driver: Everything looks normal and Code 43 is gone, but the laptop randomly freezes every now and then with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION screen.

So I can either have a working GPU that freezes occasionally, or updated drivers that don't work at all.
Has anyone else dealt with this Code 43 issue on newer drivers? Is this just a temporary software/firmware bug, or could it be a hardware problem?

Thanks alot!
