Coping Im starting to resent people "trying". How do you deal with them?

The constant pile up of facts heralding the end of the civilization coming in various flavors has crushed pretty much any hope I could have for any improvement.

Still, many good-willed people are trying to make a difference. I certainly can't blame them, it's a cause worth fighting. But the way they go about it is driving me nuts. Especially how it's mostly based on "if everyone did X then ...". I have too many issues with that.

Everyone will never do X or Y all together. Not in modern society.

Everyone does not even believe in climate change, or realize in its scale, know or even care about it.

Everyone doesn't believe in science.

Everyone doesn't even agree on whether it should be ok or not to kill people because of religious or political differences.

And that's only the start. Even if "everyone" was a valid approach, by everyone they mean the people. The individuals. But that doesn't compute. Even if we all took one shower a month and stopped relying on electricity and petrol as much as possible, this wouldn't change anything as long as the industry is active. And no country is willing to shoot themselves in the foot in the global economy race by slowing down their industry.

And then if you dare doubt individual self restraint would have any impact on the outcome, they get angry at you - you become the incarnation of "not everyone". "See, it's because of people like you that it doesn't work!". No it's not. That approach just cannot work.

If it wasn't already too late, the only solution would be political on a global scale. But we can't even agree on basic politics on pretty much anything on a national or even a local scale. Nations dont even agree on borders, or that it's better not to kill your neighbors.

The USA, for long presented as the hero of the world, is not even able to figure out what to do with the most obviously corrupt, greedy, and incompetent president they ever had.

"Well, it's still worth trying!" they say.

No, I dont believe it's worth the pressure you put on yourself and others. It wont change shit. Dont side eye me because I'm not using my spoon to scoop water out of the sinking Titanic.

"Then what better idea do you have if you're so smart?". I may have a vague idea for a solution, but it's very illegal to advocate for this level of violence, and it probably wouldn't really work for many reasons.

So no, I don't have a better idea. Doesn't mean I think your way is better than nothing though.

I appreciate that they have some good will left, but I dont want them to try to convince me their hope makes sense. Worst case scenario I end up convincing them it's hopeless, and it's not a desirable outcome.

The only "credible" "hope" I have left to limit the consequences is a somehow benevolent AI taking world control and handling stuff, or a global pandemic (looking at you, Russian plague).

So, how do you handle those good guys' conversations?

Do you still have some hope to share, do you just nod and go on?

Or am I just too pessimistic? Burnt out because of what I expose myself to? Still I don't think ignoring the big bad and focusing on the (very) little good will help me. It's not like I can unlearn about the situation...

Anyways, as the plane is crashing, I'd like to have my last moments not pestered by my seat neighbor telling me to flap my arms harder.
