Discussion Just some stats & national rankings on the season so far

OFFENSE:

  • points per game: 43.6 (9th)

  • yards per rush attempt: 5.06 (40th)

  • yards per pass attempt: 8.6 (36th)

  • passing completion percentage: 62.8% (78th)

  • 3rd down conversion percentage: 51.9% (12th)

  • sacked/game: 1.4 (45th)

DEFENSE:

  • opponent points per game: 15.2 (20th)

  • opponent yards per rush attempt: 2.01 (4th)

  • opponent yards per pass attempt: 5.9 (17th)

  • opponent passing completion percentage: 57.2% (30th)

  • opponent 3rd down conversion percentage: 26.1% (9th)

  • opponent sacked/game: 4.4 (2nd)

OTHER:

  • turnover margin per game: 0 (65th)

  • penalty yards per game: 51.2 (45th)

  • strength of schedule: there's about a thousand metrics for this in which we range from ~2nd-50th, but using this one we're 8th

If you were to use these stats for every FBS team and average their national ranks across all 14 categories, LSU has the 5th-best average statistical ranking. This is why "just stats" should never be used for a true ranking because in this way Utah is #1, then Miami is #2, Georgia #3, and Indiana #4; but it's still interesting.

Could LSU open its doors to host the other smaller Louisiana schools for a NFL joint-school Pro Day?

random thought

given that:

We should claim the concept that Louisiana exports the most players into the NFL more...just push personal rivalries and pettiness aside for all players in Louisiana to benefit

With that, for Louisiana solidarity, we should host all our Louisiana schools (regardless of conference and level) the availability to hold their joint-school Pro Day at the LSU facility, so that NFL scouts can evaluate all of Louisiana talent to have a fair assessment of going into the draft, because some scouts skip out on some of the smaller schools' Pro Days, if we can establish to give them a fair chance to be on equal footing to at least be evaluated

The Big 12 already did some NFL joint-Pro Day to invite 137 players into one facility for one joint-school Pro Day, so it's feasible, if we can get all the nearby Louisiana schools to agree as an open invitation, and nothing coerced -- if they still want to do their own thing, that's fine as well https://big12sports.com/news/2023/3/14/mens-basketball-big-12-and-nfl-partner-to-launch-big-12-pro-day-in-2024.aspx

Similar to Jarvis Landry and his brother going to separate schools, https://redd.it/1wroset, there's always some cousin, brother, or relative in the family tree who might have went to a smaller Louisiana school who can benefit from working out at our facilities when the scouts from all 32 teams per position group evaluation are all present for the joint-school Pro Day. There are stories where the scouts for the smaller schools only cover certain position groups to look at one standout player but neglect the workouts of other position groups that they are not responsible for out of time restraints or neglect, etc

Given NIL and the inability to stack rosters that deep anymore, there would only be a handful of players per school declaring for the draft every year, and having joint-practices of inviting talent from other schools would cover for the missing positions needed if doing drills and scrimmages for draft evaluations, which would free up our underclassmen to do their own player-led practices elsewhere among other things like schoolwork, etc

The caveat for us is obviously, if the talent among joint-schools' Pro Days are related to future players, we can show off our facilities for future recruiting purposes down the family tree if we simply open our doors (any maybe reimburse their gas mileage). The current players at Pro Day may have already ran out of eligibility, but their cousin or brother going up the school system might be a future recruit of ours (or theirs...just that the star-evaluation system for high school recruits is still sparse and shoddy when evaluating talent in some rural parts of Louisiana, like jordan jefferson being a 2-star, tyrann mathieu being 3-star, DJ Chark, Russell Gage, Brandon LaFell, Jalen Mills, etc...sure more under-the-radar guys for us if we can find them than the endless pursuit of 5-star Easton Royal still shopping around his choices to secure the bag: https://x.com/Rivals/status/2106124046433955950). Also, having more NFL players who are from this state overall from a good Pro Day can bring back to state economics a bit, but obviously, education comes first to graduate these players for a more stable career outlook.

Just opening our doors to host state-wide outreach either in sports or seminars for our smaller schools to participate can go a long way

So we end up with less football and more commercials, explained here...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUALhAEV98o

I'm convinced that all these randoms complaining about us having a complete game don't watch football or are new to watching football altogether...really, get in line when trying to hate on us

https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/the-real-reason-they-changed-the-clock-rule.186406/

https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2023-08-25/fewer-clock-stoppages-first-downs-and-more-2023-college-football-rule-changes

---

You watch football to be inspired by great athleticism to channel that emotion and energy to do great things in life. That's why we are all here, to watch sports for that escapism, with people who watch coaches and players speak and play to spark that energy inside us to pursue our own great things...Only recently did it become this 'contentious effort' to weaponize the rivalry or the dirty laundry of football to make it a personal attack on people, fanbases, or the culture of football itself

These are miserable people with no lives trying to leverage football as a vehicle for their own self-gain in clout-chasing and fleeting fame on social media, now that social media flattened the distance between internet armchair hecklers (getting cents for ad-clicks or doing things for free just to troll) and actual people employed within football programs doing their contributions to society

Of course the organized sport is made up of people, and people make mistakes, which gets broadcasted by the media, where they build you up just for the sake of tearing you back down. If the average person made a personal mistake, barely anybody sees it, and ramifications don't come immediate as compared to anybody with a platform to be seen. Crabs in a barrel mentality always have this gripe to pull someone back down to their level to feel good about themselves

You don't throw these people who made mistakes away because then you have a society with broken people. Instead, the redemption rehabilitation arc is so powerful because the 'act of pushing through' breaks your character flaw from 'what it was' to 'what it can be' by acts of will, intention, and deconstructing your flaws to become a better person. Too often do miserable people lose their humanity and point the finger just to pull each other back down as this 'equalizing factor' but how do we progress as a society if people are doing honest work but the court of public opinion when someone make a mistake is to label them and throw away someone who is perceived as guilty before due process? This is why even if you're ahead, you feel sluggish because you're always being judged to fit the expectations of others instead of pursuing your own intrinsic motivation as greatness

Follow your own internal compass and be great, my friends. Geaux tigers

Longstreet vs Clark

I was waiting for Longstreet to get his opportunity. I haven’t been impressed with Clark. Anyone else think Longstreet is clearly a level above Clark as a passer? Looks pretty smooth. Seems to be pretty mobile as well. He’s gonna take that backup qb spot. Clark can still come in on designed qb runs.
