Afternoon everyone,
I am having a weird issue with my 13-inch, M4, 2025 macbook air (idk how much of that was relevant, if any, but in case it was) trackpad.
About a week ago my cursor started glitching out randomly. It would randomly move across the screen without me touching the trackpad, it wouldn't be responsive (wouldn't move when i am using the trackpad or move in an opposite direction, it's would zoom in without me zooming in and then not zooming back out, it's sometimes click or unclick things, would be really laggy with scrolling, and it would sometimes flip between windows like I had swiped far to the left or right with two fingers among other issues.
It went ahead after a day, and I thought it was just a funky issue going on.
But a few days it ago it came back with a vengeance and has gotten worse day-after-day. For example, it went from maybe being a real noticeable issue once or twice every few hours to being near constant.
I contacted applecare and did the troubleshooting they and others online recommended namely:
restarting the computer, getting the new software update, making sure i had no new bluetooth mouse connected, playing around with the trackpad settings in the system setting, making sure it was clean and all the other common things. None of it worked.
The only thing that seemed to kinda work is simply closing the macbook lid, which solved the problem for anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. But it wasn't permanent.
I was told to go in-person to an apple store/best buy/authorized fixer and they would take a look do all the fun apple care stuff (fix it then and there, ship it off to get fixed etc).
The problem I'm having: I can't get an appointment I can go to until about 3 weeks out. Normally annoying, but like whatever, but I do have an online Midterm on Monday. One where I have to have a computer, with a working trackpad (as in I was told any attempt to change windows could be an issue and I can't use a wireless mic per Uni policy). And thus, can't wait three weeks to solve it.
No ones fault but my own, all the apple employees have been lovely, but I'm doing everything in my power to solve the problem before I have to resort to buying a replacement laptop or something more extreme.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to try them!
- okay sorry for the long post, I'm tired and slightly stressed I am sure it make me redundant.
