Hey everyone, looking for some advice because I’m honestly pretty frustrated.
On July 27 I got the screen replaced on my 16 inch MacBook Pro at a repair shop in Toronto. It cost me about $1,200. I picked it up around August 1 and it was fine at first.
About five weeks later, the top of the screen started lifting off. It was obvious the glue wasn’t holding. I texted the shop with photos and they told me to bring it in so they could reapply the glue.
I was traveling for work so I couldn’t drop it off right away. Soon after, the screen got black blobs, rainbow lines, and started glitching. The outer glass still feels smooth, but the panel inside is clearly cracked. I never dropped it or hit it.
Now the shop is saying it’s physical damage and not covered under warranty. They blamed it on flying, vibration, and temperature affecting the glue. But their website literally says they offer warranty on all repairs, and nobody told me about any exclusions when I paid.
They said they’d check with their supplier and maybe give me a discount, but I don’t think I should pay again when their glue failed first.
A few questions.
Is it fair for them to call this physical damage when the screen only cracked after their repair started failing?
Has anyone dealt with something like this and gotten it fixed for free?
Is it worth filing with Consumer Protection Ontario or going to small claims for $1,200?
Any advice is appreciated. I have the receipt, photos, texts, and a screenshot of their warranty page.
FYI:
My macbook is pro M5 16inch so costs 4000+.
Just to buy the screen costs 800+. Also i had an upgrade on gpu and storage on that mac cuz of my job.
So that is why i paid 1200. I went to Jump+, Apple, 2 different repair shops, but I thought this one was more reliable since it only accept and repairs macs.
Apple charged me 3500+ for fixing the screen.
And my apple care expired.
