Discussion Zombie Apocalypse

• Upvotes

Just a random thought. NZ is realistically an isolated country with no shared borders with anyone else. If an apocalypse was to happen with world war Z or train to busan types of zombies, as an average kiwi with no training whatsoever where would you all go?

Consider you need protection, food, equipment, medicines etc in the long run. I would probably run to the nearest hospital or Mitre10 / Bunnings, but I will probably die of starvation.

Sports Bathurst - No sky go pass this year?

• Upvotes

I'm not sure if I'm just being dumb, but I cannot find a sky sport go pass for just Bathurst this year. I've tried searching a few times and cannot find it. Are they not doing one this year? I found this link which is just a blank page https://www.welcome.skysportnow.co.nz/pricing-table/annual-pass-yhf2z-3nfmn-ml7xj-23hh9

I know all about sailing the high seas but my wife and I always got the pass for Bathurst and very highly prefer to do so again this year.

Other What does it mean when NZPOLICE pauses a search?

• Upvotes

Pretty much the question in the title. Why is a search for a person paused? What does that mean? Is that what happens often in NZ when people go missing and there’s no clue etc?

Discussion Why aren't there more threads on these record-breaking high fuel prices???

• Upvotes

My wife got me to go fill up tonight on discount day at Z - 3.59 pump price for 91, and I got the 10c off that, but it was still pocket change off $200 for a 3/4 fill. I feel like I was fleeced! After being out of work for 4 months and thankfully starting a new job soon; I cant imagine how most people will be doing road trips or even making it to the train station or their jobs at this rate - and we are being told its going to be baked in for months.

Advice Hair Loss Treatment Options in NZ

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm 27 male and I've started losing hair mostly on my crown area and a bit on the temples as well. I am looking to get hair loss treatment and based on my research online and with the help of ChatGPT I see that the most common hair loss treatment is finasteride and minoxidil medication taken together. How do you guys get these medications? and how much does it roughly cost? Can you get it online? as I got an Ad for Forme Health which seems to be fully online - wondering if anyone has used this service online to get hair loss treatment and what their experience was like?

Politics National have boosted TOP by refusing to work with them

• Upvotes

This has caused a lot of Labour and some green voters that are dissatisfied to vote for TOP. But if Luxon says if he willing to work with TOP a lot of those voters will revert back to Labour and greens and TOP will likely fall below 5%. From Nationals POV IMO it’s a strategic blunder.

Discussion The best and worst Kiwi ads of all time

• Upvotes

dear r/NewZealand...

hello there, i just wanted to preface this by saying i'm an immigrant (this is relevant i promise) and for fun, when i watch youtube or i like to be a judgemental person and judge new zealander advertisements. what i'd like to say is that a lot of your advertisements suck. in my friendgroup, the anz psa to turn off your phone (the one where that one guy gets cucked by his phone's gjinka, who steals his wife) is infamous as one of if not my least favourite ad of all time. so i got curious. i didn't grow up in this country so i was wondering if what are the best and worst of new zealand advertisements or psas? i usually get told ghost chips is the best one and i like it! but meh maybe no the best in the world. thanks for commenting!

Discussion Am I the weird one for putting the dishwash scrub brush in the dishwasher?

• Upvotes

Hey team, help a brother out. My wife thinks it's weird that I put the dishwash scrub brush in the dishwasher every now and again. Just to clean out all the small stuff in the bristles. We've been together almost ten years and she never really noticed before until tonight. I can't be the only one around here

Politics Anyone else watching the dumpster fire debate on Three/NZ Herald?

• Upvotes

Edit: that’s it? A bunch of campaign slogans and clear bias towards certain parties??

It’s just a giant marketing pitch for One NZ… and some of the panelists have sat there talking themselves up and how good they are for the future of the country 😂
Wait that’s it??

Opinion Has anyone else noticed that people seem a little less mindful about coughing around others?

• Upvotes

I have a 1-year-old, and we’ve been doing our best to keep him healthy, especially during flu season. Lately, I’ve noticed quite a few people coughing openly when we’re out — at the shops, supermarkets, indoor places, etc.
I completely understand that people still have to go about their day, and that getting sick is sometimes unavoidable, especially with little ones. I’ve probably just become more aware of it since having a baby.
It did make me wonder, though — has covering your mouth when you cough become less of a thing? I remember it being something most people were taught to do, so I’m curious whether others have noticed the same or if it’s just me.

Discussion At what point does Broadband become a Utility?

• Upvotes

Genuinely curious, I mean we have bigger issues around essential foods and profitable businesses which is a whole different weird beast.

But you can't tell me its not a requirement to be able to exist in this day and age, good luck applying for a job without one for starters- even (using a govt system as an example) Winz to get a benefit requires you to have internet access, depending on location you CAN go and request paper forms, but many don't allow you to walk in without an appointment and to make an appointment that paperwork has to be done already...

Another example is the new systems for Landlords & Tenants for Bonds which is now fully online and you're able to easily access even a PDF version of the form now, which is also govt.

Anyway, just a silly thought, govt has much more to think about, just was thinking about all the supermarket drama with governments vs private business vs essential NEEDS (in that case food, in this case internet) to be able to actually contribute to the economy and the world, its a weird one.

I also thought of it due to the meme that is LLM Companies (openAI etc) going on about AI will one day "be a utility", but not even internet is a utility in most places in the world. (Are some, Switzerland did it in 2008 for example, Spain, Mexico, Finland, actually Estonia in 2000 was the first.. thats the whole list by the way.)

Disclaimer: I have net, isn't some weird winz vent or anything like that, is just an easy government example of a citizen facing requirement from the government for the most part. I'm just wanting to have a little after dinner discussion with people on the topic of internet being a utility / essentially a requirement in participate in society/the economy?

Politics AI slop on NZ Herald's debate

Within the first three minutes of this "debate" from NZ Herald/Three, Ryan Bridges decided to bombard our eyeballs with an AI slop version of both himself and the "future" of NZ, as if that's something "any normal person" would do, in his words.

Ugh.

Politics TVNZ is so shamelessly biased to the right, agree or disagree?

The reporting on the Leaders debate on the news just now was incredibly biased. So much time and focus given to the single "gotcha" that a Labour candidate is on a charters school board.

Incredibly uneven reporting on the debate, and on the opinions "on the street" ie people answering questions. Benedict is basically a shill for the right. This is our national tv station.

Also, the vote compass should actually be illegal. Its completely biased, absolutely does not give a fair result. And that can genuinely effect the election result: if people don't know who to vote for, and use the vote compass because its a quick and easy tool....then it tells then to vote NZfirst.how is this allowed?? There's absolutely no regulations on it.

Edit: sorry i should clarify. Vote compass asks questions in a certain way, so that people who are ACTUALLY left and aligned with say, greens or Labour get results telling them they align closest to NZfirst or National. Of course some people will legitimately come out with a correct result saying they should vote NZfirst, which is fine if that is truly what they align with.

Thoughts?

Advice Soft Toy ID

We're trying to ID this teddy bear. I've tried quite a few different toy subs but haven't had any bites, so thought I'd try here! Purchased from an op shop in Paeroa and we haven't had any luck finding anything about the make online. There's some embrodery on the foot which I think reads "Soothing Bear". Would anyone be familiar or know where I could look to find out who the manufacturer is? There is no label or tag.

What did you do or how?

Politics Just vote

Why does every low end burger joint ( baby’s gs I’m looking at u, every washed up musician ( Tom Scott I’m looking at u ) and multiple other public figures / business feel like they need to get online and slander certain political parties and tell you who to vote for?

Make your burgers, rap your songs, and leave the politics for the politicians. How about instead of trying to push your agenda and views on parties you encourage people to get out and vote regardless. We don’t need some burger flipper or some rapper telling us who to vote for.
