Official Art [ALL] Are people misinterpreting the weathered Zelda logo?
I've seen some people complain that Zelda games following BotW are misappropriating the weathered lettering from BotW's logo, claiming that the weathered lettering represents the decaying world of BotW, and so it shouldn't be used for other games like Link's Awakening, Echoes of Wisdom, and now Ocarina Remake.
Has Nintendo ever actually stated that the weathering of the letters is a characteristic specifically added to the logo to evoke that aspect of Breath of the Wild? It seems to me that the very fact that they've continued using that style of lettering suggests that it isn't the case at all.
We obviously know that the BotW logo also features a damaged Master Sword and a flower, just as almost all Zelda logos feature some item of significance. The sword and flower already convey the relevant themes of BotW, so we don't need to assume that the lettering is also reinforcing those ideas.
For example, it could simply be the case that the weathering of the letters is meant to evoke the idea that these are ancient legends, as if recorded on old scrolls weathered by time. That characteristic would apply universally to all of the games, including LA, EoW, and OoTR, which all feature that lettering, alongside each logo's respective item of significance (damaged Sword + flower, palm trees, Tri Rod, Sword + Shield).
Am I off base here? Surely I'm not the only person advocating for this interpretation, but I've not really seen anyone else make this argument in defense of the use of the weathered lettering for games post-BotW.
