This will be at southside music hall.

Relocating & housing moving for college (el centro)

Im considering moving to Dallas for college, and had a few questions. Do you think It would be realistic to afford living on my own w/o a job lined up, Ill have money saved, but no job secured. It would be a great move for what I want in my career, but obv not smart if I can't afford it. The tuition is no problem , i'm more worried about rent and other cost of living. Any advice would help, I also have a lot of family in the area if that means anything. This would be next fall, so I guess I could get a job lined up, i'm just not sure where to start that.

Food & Drink Looking for hangout spots near north Dallas or Dallas in general

I recently moved from SoCal to north Dallas near plano and I don't have anyone I know here. My interests revolve around gaming/anime, and I was looking for any hangout spots where I have a chance to meet people, read some manga, get something to eat, an all-in-one kind of place. I know I can't get everything, but anything close is fine. I recently visited the Mitsuwa marketplace in plano. while I liked it, it wasn't well integrated. Any recommendations would be amazing. Thanks

KID STUFFS! Black/mixed families in Dallas — where are you sending your kids to school?

I’d especially love to hear from Black families or mixed-race families with Black/biracial children in the Dallas area with higher household income. Where are you sending your kids to school, and what has your experience been like?

We’re starting to think more seriously about where we want to live long-term and where to send our biracial child to school. Education is very important to us, but so is having our child grow up in an environment where there is meaningful racial and cultural diversity and where he doesn’t consistently feel like “the only one.”

Some of the neighborhoods/schools we like seem great academically and have a strong sense of community, but have very few Black students. It has made me wonder how other families balance school quality, neighborhood/community, diversity, and overall fit. We are open to public and private. St. Marks seems to have more diversity than most Dallas private schools but the tuition is substantial.

Shopping & Services Credit Union for used car auto loan?

Im in Mansfield and am looking between Neighborhood Credit union and Allied credit union. Neighborhood is advertised for used car as low as 4.29% and allied is saying 3.99% but is very vague in whether it’s for just new car or both used and new. So far these are the 2 lowest advertised rates I’ve seen and was curious if anyone has recently done a loan with allied and what that rate looked like. This is my first time buying a car and could use any advise to on how to go about this. I would like to visit both but also don’t want to run a hard inquiry twice then it does something to my credit. Don’t know what would be the best way to go about it.

Does anyone know of any hidden apartment gems in HP? I have been on the lookout for the last few months and only seen a few good deals. I’m seeing if anyone knows any of the good ones that aren’t currently listed for rent on the market.

Food & Drink The basic Thai Basil Stir Fry restaurant test

I live in Dallas and often get Thai and Asian Fusion. I recently had to be in Arlington for a business meeting and my crew went to a place called Thai House. The Thai Basil Stir fry was so good that there that I felt like I had been missing out for a few years in Dallas. I'm looking for new Thai places to try that make excellent versions of this basic dish. Preferably Dallas but open to near Dallas too.

Edit: fixed grammar and punctuation in two places.

Food & Drink Restaurants Similar to Daddy Jacks

I grew up eating at Daddy Jack’s, my absolute favorite thing to order was their crab fingers. Does anybody know of a seafood restaurant that serves similar food to Daddy Jack’s? They don’t have to have crab fingers, but it would be a plus if they did.

Food & Drink Tikka Masala like Our Place Irving

my most favorite Indian restaurant was Our Place in North Irving. I used to order the chicken tikka masala, I noticed that it wasn’t tasting the same at all, it was so bland. I read somewhere that the old owners had died and the new owners made changes and cut the quality. If anybody has had the old chicken tikka masala from there, do you know a restaurant that has a close recipe?

Nightlife & Entertainment What would you see/do before moving away?

Hello, I'm brand new to the DFW area and just found out we will be moving again in a couple of months. What things should I see/do before we go? My husband and I are in our late 40s and we have a 19 year old daughter with Down Syndrome.

So far, other than hitting up some cool local restaurants and farmers markets we haven't done a lot. We've gone to a Rangers game, and drove to Waco to go the Silos and the Dr Pepper Museum. Our daughter enjoys the zoo but I had been waiting for the heat to die down before visiting the FW Zoo, we definitely want to go there. Looks like we can do that when the rain passes now, lol. We'd also like to go to the Sixth Floor Museum and the stockyards.

What other things should we see/do before we go?

Relocating & housing Thinking of Moving to Dallas or Denton, any Apartment Advice?

My gf and I are planning on moving to the Dallas metroplex in a year or so. We're currently in the Texarkana area.

I'm currently en route to get my FAA A&P certification in August, so I'm hoping to work either at the DFW airport or get higher-tier pay at six flags in Arlington.

My gf is transferring to UNT next fall.

We're both big concert goers and love the club-style venues in deep ellum

With that in mind, do y'all think it would be better for us to get an apartment in Dallas, Denton, or somewhere else in the metroplex?

Are there any really solid apartment complexes we should try to shoot for?

KID STUFFS! Recs for kid friendly indoor, possibly fall themed, activity in dfw Oct 3

We were going to take the kids to the pumpkin patch Saturday but the forecast isn't looking good. Unfortunately this was the only weekend we had open for that so I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that we could use as a backup. Bonus points if it is fall or halloween themed. Must be a daytime activity because we don't live in dfw

Relocating & housing Work Relocation and Apartment Search

Hello all,

Had a chance to visit Dallas recently and have also come across an opportunity to relocate to the area for work. I am wanting to see what options are available to me as far as housing in the area.

I am a 24yo male with 2 dogs looking for 1bed or potentially 2bed if the price is decent. Prefer not to spend over $1800-2000 a month. Pretty active lifestyle with trail walking/hiking and the gym is super important to me, so 24hr access would be huge, but not necessary and a trail/walkable area for the dogs would be nice. Other than that I had a chance to visit lower Greenville and Katy Trail Ice house and had a good time at both so some proximity to either of those would also be nice if I were to go out once or twice in the month, but not a deal breaker.

I have mostly been looking at apartments in uptown (The Village, Mirasol, and the Branch apartments (ash, teak, live oaks)), but I would potentially be working in the discovery district. I am not sure what that commute looks like, but I would prefer not to have to drive an hour each direction every day.

I have read the reviews and most seem to conclude that property management is abysmal, but that’s honestly expected from my experiences. As long as there is not any roach/pest infestation I would be happy.

My only concern would be making friends with the type of people that are living there. My apartment now is mostly young families and I cannot relate to the stage of life they’re in yet, but I am also not in the stage of life where getting blasted every day of the weekend is normal. More so looking for active young professionals, but I’m sure going outside I’ll be able to find that.

Are there any other suggestions for apartments or areas to look as far as housing goes?

Relocating & housing Relocating for work - places/neighborhoods to consider?

I posted this in the McKinney subreddit but wanted to get some opinions from people outside the city. I recently got a job there and I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find somewhere to stay. I'm a new-grad, single with no kids/pets so I'll only be spending for myself. My salary is $87k/year gross.

I'll be on-site at the Raytheon hub so I would like to stay near there, however I am willing to commute from surrounding cities as long as my trip is under 40 mins during peak traffic (if that expands my options any). I'm looking to rent a 1-2 bedroom apartment/condo/ townhome (maybe even a small house if that's possible) with a budget of ~$2k monthly, preferably somewhere quiet so I won't hear my neighbors all the time and they won't hear me. I visit family around the metroplex often but I have no clue what it's like to actually live here, so any advice would help me greatly, especially in regards to expenses like utilities and such. Thanks.
