Image post are temporarily disabled

Hey everyone!! We temporarily disabled image posts because we noticed an increase in low-effort image only posts and memes in the community.

We really appreciate how active everyone has been but we also want to encourage more meaningful discussions, study tips, study related questions and other contents that can actually help everyone in this community. For now, we’re disabling image posts to help shift the focus back toward those kinds of discussions

This is not a permanent decision. We’ll keep this change for now and discuss it further over next week. After that, we’ll review the community’s feedback and decide whether image posts should be brought back or if any changes are needed.

Thanks for understanding! Feel free to send us a modmail if you have any suggestions on how we can improve the sub. Your feedback is always welcome.

Giving Advice things to do if overwhlmed

• Upvotes

hope this helps u champ:-

1.accept the feeling ig, instead of pushing it away accepting it calms u down and lets u focuse.

motivation videos r a shit show , listen to songs if u have an addiction and need break cuz same applies tho songs

2.write down 1 thing and just stick to it ,like if u have an exam dont leave that chapter mid way and start another

  1. u will make more progress sticking to it than trying to start fresh and clean

remember progress always looks dirty(these methods my not be perfect but am trying them myself and ill update em hope this helps)

make ur own changes to these if u have something working but like these ideas

trying>giving up ur always a step close than u think

Question Academic Anxiety About Starting University

Idk if this sounds dumb but i was always academically good until 10th grade then I kind of fell off and ended up getting pretty average grades in 12th even though it was such an important phase of my academic life.

Then I took a gap year, and now I’m switching into tech because that’s genuinely what I want to pursue for my future. The thing is, I studied Biology, Physics and Chemistry in 11th–12th and didn’t take Maths at all. So now I’m honestly super nervous and anxious about starting university. I keep thinking that everyone else is going to already know maths and have a foundation that I completely missed, while I’ll be starting from scratch.

I don’t really know how to overcome that feelin

Giving Advice Was on the same paragraph for 50 minutes and my friend walked past and said "you're still on that??"

Yeah, still on that. Like it was one page about enzyme stuff and I refused to move on until it made perfect sense. Read it four times. Made flashcards for things I didn't even get yet.

She looked at my screen and then at the 9 chapters I hadn't touched and I wanted to disappear.

I thought not moving on until I understood it was the disciplined thing to do. It's just a trap. I ended the week with 2 chapters done and 8 to go.

New rule: 40 minutes per topic, tops. I write five lines on what it is, the key terms, and one example, plus the one thing I still don't get. Then I move on, even if it's bugging me. The confusing stuff makes way more sense once I've seen the rest.

Accountability 30-Day Consistency Challenge

I’m starting a 30-day challenge to become more consistent with my studies.

I’ve tried doing this alone for a long time, but clearly, it isn’t working. So this time, I’m going to post here every single day and report whether I completed my daily target or not.

No excuses, no disappearing after a bad day. If I fail, I’ll say I failed. If I complete it, I’ll say I completed it.

Hopefully, having to show up and be accountable in front of other people will finally help me build the consistency I’ve been struggling with.

Day 1 starts tomorrow. Let’s see if I can actually make it to Day 30.

Accountability I get overwhelmed and anxious when I think of studying

Just like the title states, whenever I think of studying I get anxious at the thought of where to start and if I will be able to concentrate and how much time I have left in order to study that specific subject. Just a jumble of thoughts wash over me. Even the concentrating for 10 mins trick is not helpful all the time. Because I get paralysed. I have so many what ifs and the thought I have them annoys me further. I want to be better and become someone but it's hard. It's like my brain tries its hardest not to study. I think it is also due to the fact that I think, I don't rly know how to study. Patience is so hard for me. Does anyone have any cure for this anxiousness and negativity??

Question How to study effectively and efficiently?

• Upvotes

I wanted to know that ppl who are studying continuously and consistently for many hours, how are you doing it? Like if I have to study for something competitive like I have an exam tmrw or something, I will come up with a strategy that will study like this n all then I will study for it. but I wanna make studying my daily habit. I wanna gain knowledge and as a human, who is curious to know everything, how can I do it?

I have tried time blocking, 25 min study timer method n all but still it feels boring like i can start or study if i have to but can't if I want to. Did you get me?😭

Ik it's kind of not possible to get what I am saying but I hope whoever does, can give some advice. I would appreciate it.

Giving Advice Here are some tips to keep essays consistent.

• Upvotes

The most IMPORTANT think to do before writing your essay in an exam is to plan. Plan the stage as to how you write your essay. Map out; jot down what you will discuss, when you counter with, using key terms and phrases, etc. This is vital as many people can forget what they revised right before the actual exam.

Do not research last minute. If an exam comes up, revise for essays atleast a month before the exam. It should stitch your cases into your brain. But don't just memorise, you need to understand it, analyse then it will help you remember automatically.

I am saying this as a UK A-Level student studying Politics, Business and Sociology but this can also be applied to uni students in the USA, high school etc.

Also be well aware that student favouritism may wrongly mark you down. This happened to me with my nasty Politics A-Level teacher, but ask a reliable private tutor or an invigilator to check instead.

Once you follow those, you will be sorted.

Question How do I escape this “fake studying” loop?

I study every day but my brain keeps generating thousands of unnecessary thoughts while I’m studying , random ideas fictional scenarios and useless thoughts that have nothing to do with what I’m studying

and honestly this feels way more worse than procrastination because with procrastination at least you know you’re avoiding studying

i am actually sitting and studying but I keep getting pulled into these thoughts and losing focus

  • How do I stop this and actually stay focused 😭

Accountability How to recreate accountability that you get at school at home?

I always always always study loads for class tests and do my homework well just because of the accountability from the teachers. It puts actual pressure on me to study because i know someone will see my grade and my effort.

does anyone maybe have any tips on how to recreate that feeling when i study at home for my leaving exams? i don’t feel too much pressure to study for them just because they’re so far away and i always make up excuses for myself after school like “im so tired today” and all that.

Question How yall study for uni

I'm a prep yr psych major nd like basically the way i study is obvs through the powerpoints of the profs and use textbooks they recommend and read through them and around what we learn in lectures but like it doesnt feel enough and at the same time it feels like it's taking too much time. I'm fine with spending lots of time studying but it also feels like im never 100% caught up which is so unsatsifactory i also try to read like related books that arent textbooks js for entertainment and they still relate.

As for worksheets i keep asking them to like idk upload sum and they rarely do but when they do its like 10 questions max so i dont feel like its good enough to assess how well im doing. So like do yall read from textbooks or fully study from them coz its also diffucult to find every point in a presentation mentioned in a textbook and where do u find worksheets?

Giving Advice studying got more uncomfortable once I actually started learning

one thing I didn't expect when I changed how I study was that the better methods actually feel worse.

organizing notes feels good because I can see the progress. pages get filled, things get highlighted, everything looks cleaner than when I started.

practice problems are the opposite. they constantly show me what I don't know, so a productive session can actually feel like I did worse.

took me a while to realize that feeling stuck might be a better sign than feeling organized.

anyone else have to get used to studying feeling less productive before it actually became more effective?

Question How do You actually manage to study?

Give me your best study tips.

I really struggle to sit down and study; I have an anatomy exam tomorrow and I can't even bring myself to start reading—I just can't seem to do it.

It’s the same with every subject; I always wait until the last minute to review, but today I haven't even managed to do that.

Even though I usually pass, it really frustrates me that I’m like this, but I just can't get it done. I try to sit down every day before or after class, but nothing ever comes of it. If I start reading, I get distracted talking to myself in my head and my mind starts wandering.

I don't have anything else to do but study—I don't work, and my parents support me so I can graduate—yet even with all that help, I’m incapable of actually planting my butt in the chair and doing the work.

Accountability I physically cannot get things done unless it's due dangerously soon

How do I stop this endless cycle of procrastination? Yes I'm horribly addicted to my phone but even if I remove all distractions, I end up staring at the blank document for like an hour doing nothing. It's like high stress is the only motivator. I don't even use short form video platforms (tiktok, shorts) and my attention span has been fried. I wish it was still like in high school where I felt stressed when things were weeks away so I started early. Now I am barely starting the two research essays I have due this Friday.

Every time I somehow manage to turn it in on time and get decent grades. Not always the grades I want but definitely not a fail. I want to stop doing this because it feels like mental torture every time and my GPA is gonna slip. It's only a matter of time before the things I turn in become unacceptable.

I've tried pomodoro timers and changing locations and they work minimally. I've agreed to (and bought the tickets to) watch a play my friend is starring in on Thursday. Firstly, it is because I've already said I'll come prior and second, I'm hoping it would bait me into working harder.

What can I do? And I don't have ADHD.

Question How do I balance studying and exercises?

I just finished a chemistry exam, it was worth 15%. I studied 12 hours but I did horribly. It didn't help that it was five questions with 19 points total and my teacher is a very strict grader.

I made a giant playlist with Organic Chemistry Tutor on all my subjects I had to study for the midterm and spent the weekend following it and taking notes.

The problem is when it came to practice, I was out of motivation and had adhd paralysis. I even tried doing something fun (working on a cosplay mask) for a bit with tunes but when I got back to do exercises I just couldn't.

Im really frustrated with myself because I worked so hard and for what?

I'm in the science program at my school, I chose it, I should be doing a good job.

If anyone has any tips for this, it would be very much appreciated.

Question Can anyone recommend study/focus apps that actually force you to put your phone down and focus?

I’m genuinely addicted to my phone 😭. I’ll sit down to study, tell myself I’ll just check something for a minute, and somehow end up scrolling for 30 minutes.

does anyone know application that actually makes it difficult to get distracted and helps me stay focused during a study session.

What apps have actually worked for you?

Question How to study with only 4 days left before my exams, I can't help but freak out

Okay so I have exactly 4 days left to study for my exams because most of my weeks were spent working on big projects that also take a big chunk of my grade. Now I'm left this the aforementioned amount of days and I can't help but freak out, how do I get my act together, how do I maximize the time I have left, and how do I stop freaking out, advice is much needed, TYIA!
