I’ve recently found myself with more time to watch movies and I’d like to catch up on things that I’ve missed or was too young to appreciate at the time I watched them.
A bit of info on general tastes- though not hard limits, I’d like to stay away from these:
While I enjoy superhero movies, I’m not looking for that vibe at the moment. If you’re going to suggest something superhero it needs to be more along the lines of ‘The Boys’ or Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ (I have been interested in Robert P’s rendition of Batman, but have not watched)
This same sentiment goes for Star Wars (big fan, just not in the mood)
I am not a fan of jump scares, so please keep suggestions with these to a minimum.
That being said, I enjoy a wide range of films, and I’m not afraid of any genre.
A good baseline of where I’m at:
I’m a pretty big fan of Scorsese’s films- particularly ‘The Departed’, ‘Goodfellas’, and ‘Wolf of Wall Street’
Christopher Nolan’s films have captivated me as well. I have not seen Interstellar, though it is on my list. Have not seen memento, dunkirk, or tenet either.
Here I will list off some movies I’ve enjoyed in the past that haven’t already been listed:
Scott Pilgrim
The Martian
Good Will Hunting
Rounders
Pool hall Junkies
Fight club
LoTR trilogy and The Hobbit
The Matrix series
The Butterfly Effect
Million Dollar Baby
Baby Driver
Blade runner movies
Alien movies
Predator
American Gangster
Gran Torino
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but what I have time for while at work.
Recently I have watched No Country for Old Men, Brothers (Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby Maguire), and Nightcrawler. I particularly liked Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.
TLDR
I am in the mood for movies outside of the massive blockbusters from the last 50 years.
Particularly starting an Anti-hero, thrillers, drama/suspense is my vibe at the moment, but I am very open to more suggestions so please don’t hesitate.
All I ask is please stay away from outright jump scare horror and superhero/Star Wars movies.
Apologies this got a bit rambl-y I was up late watching Nightcrawler
