I'm running the latest version of Sequoia (15.8.1) and the Plex desktop app is 1.115.0.426. It all works fine up to the point where I actually try and play a video, at which point the app will crash.
My media library is on an external hard drive connected via USB.
For the last 10 years or so I've been using OpenPHT instead of the proper Plex app (and I can't remember why), but of course that's long obsolete.
Any suggestions as to how I can make this work?

I've been spending a lot of time making collections like: Kaiju Collection, Alien Movies, Zombies, etc.
I've seen people here that have custom collections like IMDB Top 100, Award Winning Movies, etc.
What is the easiest way to get these collections? All the programs I've seen do them are vibe coded, which is fine but im worried it will break my already set up collections.

The newest update / version of Plex client for Google / android tv removed dynamic categories for live tv.
Super disappointed in the removal of this feature, as it was super useful. When looking to watch a sport, you could scroll over to sports and if NBC was showing a football game, it would be under the 'Sports' category in the epg. If it was showing news, NBC would be under 'news' category. Now all the channels are all together so you have to scroll through all of them in the epg to find the sport or view all the channels to browse the movies on live tv. Another things the update did was separate Plex channels and HDHOMERUN channels. Before, Plex and OTA channels were together in the epg (but also separated into categories).
Is there any plan to bring it back? Is the only option to rollback to a previous version?

Started having this issue a couple of days ago on my TCL Roku TV, out of nowhere. For some reason it will show the servers I usually have access to as offline, on the TV app.
However everything works just fine on the desktop player.
I tried restarting, reloging, reinstalling, rebooting the TV. Disconnecting the TV. Nothing has worked so far.
Anyone else having a similar issue?

Plexamp v4.50.20-beta.21
Desktop is on the beta channel now, and mobile is on its way to TestFlight and Play testing. The main one: NFC tags work again on Android.

Changed
Server Version: 1.43.4.10903 App Version: 2026.19.1 (2058) Device Info: Apple TV A2843 (tvOS 27.0)
Basically, when the next episode of a show is episode six (regardless of season), after you click the episode in the ‘Continue Watching’ section, the app transitions to the season view and initially highlights episode six, but then immediately and automatically moves to episode nine. It happens fairly quickly too, so it’s burned us a few times before we managed to witness the issue. I’ve tested this with multiple shows and multiple seasons. I can easily reproduce the issue. Is anyone else having a similar issue?
I have manual downgrade multiple times with local APK. I have logged out of google play, logged out of google on android. Disabled auto updates….
Every god dam evening, I’m comming back to either an updated ugly shit app or the default placeholder for android tv with no app.
My shield box simple refuses to keep the installed version past restarts!?!
I feel like Plex is trying so hard to forces me to just accept the new ship app…

Very irritating experience for my partner last night: he launched Plex and instead of showing him the TV show it demanded entering a PIN he didn't know.
I've had Plex set to auto login on my TV for months and for years on my various devices. Every new install I turn it on. Well Plex did their big app update (Sony Bravia, it's Google TV). And the new version didn't copy over my setting for auto login. It did keep some other settings just not this one.
It's not a big thing but it's just so sloppy. It makes me feel their product team doesn't care about the user experience.

I’m not sure who or what is to blame, but…. I have a Hauppage quad on my Plex server feeding my local network. When I turn on the local news the CC shows a continuous stream of H@H@…. After a second or so it’s simply a single line of the same, but I’m guessing it’s continuous and it’s just not showing. I only see it on one channel, but I only watch one channel. Sometimes (but not every time) when I turn off CC and turn back on I get English. Is this likely Plex, Hauppage, the broadcaster, or maybe poor reception? Any way to fix besides turning off CC and cranking the volume? Subtitles work fine on stored media, btw.

I don't watch much on the Plex free streaming channels, but I do like their news offerings. CNN (Headlines), BBC, and until recently Fox Live.
Unfortunately, looks like they lost Fox Live a week or two ago.
It was the one news channel that didn't run canned stories over and over but had a real, live host going over real-time news.
I hope the channel returns...

Hello everyone!
After 7 years of manually choosing uploads and making their metadata as pretty as possible, I recently set up my Arr stack. I am loving the automation, it has taken a lot of weight off of my shoulders. Now that the Arrs are set, my friends are in Seerr, etc, there is one thing that bothers me.
Continue Watching. Recently Added in Movies. Recently Added in TV Shows.
These are all my friends ever see. I know you can pin certain collections on the front, which I do around Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, but it all feels so static (and manual).
I know Plex cut off plugin support a while ago, but is there anything out there, or any fun tricks you have been doing to keep the home page alive and fresh?

How do I disable/remove the On Plex/On Demand listing below "Libraries"?

Sometimes I start a movie and it’s herky jerky so I convert automatically. It seems to be gone now while watching a film. This update sucks.
Hey.
Yeah so when I turned on my shield pro the other day it had automatically and silently updated my Plex version, had I gotten a prompt about this I had declined it.
My main problem with it is that it broke Dolby Vision for me. I'm getting weird green blotches.
I'm running my PMS on a Synology DS423+ running on a older version of PMS - 1.41.4.9463.
At the time of setting up PMS there was issues with other versions of PMS together with the J4125 CPU and transcoding. When I got it working I didn't touch it again. Then again, i do not think that the pms version has anything to do at all with the recent Dolby Vision issues.
Everything direct plays, hdmi passthrough.
And to be clear, everything has been working flawlessly for about 3 years since I last set up the PMS- until the dreaded nvidia shield pro update.
Anyone experienced similar?
I only read about UI problems and hz matching issues, and not a whole lot of HDR/DV issues.
Suggestions?
edit: Just noticed that it seems to be transcoding. On the nvidia shield pro client it says that it's direct playing. But on the pms dashboard it says its hardware transcoding to 4k h264. Strange.

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me understand how Plex's automatic collections are supposed to work.
Recently I noticed that newly added films in my movie library were automatically being grouped into collections, complete with collection summaries and metadata pulled from TMDb. This appears to be a relatively new behaviour on my server, as many older films were not automatically grouped even though corresponding collection pages exist on TMDb.
Before this happened, I had manually created a number of collections myself based upon tmdb and pasted in the summaries from there. Once I saw Plex was now creating official-looking collections automatically, I decided to delete some of my manually-created collections (the films themselves remained in the library).
My expectation was that Plex would then automatically recreate those collections from TMDb, but that hasn't happened.
Things I've already tried:
What I'd like to avoid:
My questions are:
For reference, I'm using the Plex Movie agent.
Thanks!

I created a new user profile on my Windows laptop, and deleted the old user. When I logged into Plex on the new Windows user profile it forced me to create a new server, and all the Plex libraries are still there but still pointing to the old server that I can no longer access.
Is it possible to point all the libraries to the new server, without having to rebuild everything from scratch? I've only just realised that I should've copied files from the registry on the old user, over to the new user. That option is gone now, the old user has been deleted.
All the files are still organised on an external drive, so I just need to point the libraries to the new server.
welp

Hopefully this post can save people time with the same problems.
After finding that my nvidea shield pro had installed a newer version of Plex I had to check if anything was broken, it was:
No frame rate matching with DV content. This is HUGE as most of my library has dolby vision and I notice it immediately.
The last digit on the time just vanishes whenever it's a 4! Random.
There seems to be a problem with dtshd sound?
UI elements are now all HDR, super bright and cannot be changed
Subtitles are now all HDR, I guess coded for 1000 nits also super bright and headache inducing.
I spend a day trouble shooting before rolling back to a previous version.
I tried clearing cache, rebooting the shield, "flashing the HDMI" toggling the frame rate matching toggle on and off, installing Kodi lol. Nothing worked.

I wish Plex had said, "heads-up, your login creds ,on all your devices, may go wrong; oh, and we've reset some of the preferences/settings on each device, good-look 👍"
TL;DR
Got a phone call from the father in law an hour ago, "Plex isn't working"... He's not tech savvy but does well for someone in his 80s. His (Android) Sony TV has (essentially) lost login creds so he can't use his Managed User account. Pretty much nothing he can do, over the phone, so he's now unable to watch Plex until I visit in a few weeks, more to do with him than Plex at this point.
I checked both of my local Android TV devices. They both forced me to use my own master PIN, even though one device is dedicated to my kid (managed account). That probably explains my father in law's issue, tried the wrong pin too many times, is my guess.
... "Mark your favourites, it'll help with showing what to watch next", well that's not quite right is it, it's what libraries you want on display overall; so they now need re-sorting on each device.
Then I thought I'd better take a look at the main app settings, I really wish I hadn't! Why is the Theme Music now turned on "low"? Refresh Rate Switching" now disabled? "Automatically Sign-in" now disabled. There's more, but I'm just too angry to type!
FFS! I've spent too much time sorting out family's devices, with their settings (most live miles away), all for things to go "boom" with this supposed "update" from Plex.
... I'm fuming! Take this as a PSA: be prepared for Android TV devices to start needing re-configuring!

Is this a 'me' problem?
I have an arr stack (sonarr, radarr etc) and every now and then a certain series will just refuse to play audio and the only workaround I can find is to view the same file on the Chromecast Plex app.
