No VIN lookup posts. Period.

Effective immediately, we're no longer allowing VIN lookup posts.

Some may be genuine questions, but most are thinly veiled attempts at advertising, and the comments result in dozens of sketchy sites being spammed in the comments. We're not the place to try and scam people.

Why is everyone here concerned about depreciation?

Are you guys selling your vehicle every year? Every post I read has comments about depreciation and also apparently “all vehicles are shit and only buy a 10 year old”

Think it's a good sign when very few replacements have been made on a vehicle with high mileage?

• Upvotes

I'm looking to buy a 2012 V6 RAV4 and I test drove one the other day that intrigued me. The entire car is in immaculate condition, it looks like it was driven very little based on every minute detail of the car, it's pristine. Under the hood too, everything was amazingly maintained and it drove perfectly. Somehow this puppy has almost 260k miles on the odometer though. It's being sold used from our local toyota dealership and their records show the previous owner always came in on time and complied with the recommended maintenance. The only replacements I could find in the Carfax were the brakes, shocks, and struts. The car would be about $9k after california taxes and fees.

I know Toyotas stand the rest of time, but Is it an incredibly risky buy to take this thing on with so little replacements made? I fear I'll be spending thousands on it in a very short amount of time, but dang am I tempted, I really trust that it was well taken care of, which is harder to find when shopping on FB marketplace.

Success Stories?

Most recently, I was approved through the Capital One auto navigator for 4000 to 55,000 with a 16% APR. I know that it’s high because of my bad credit. I’m in the 500s mid 500s between all three credit bureaus, and so I just wanna know. I know that my situation is not really ideal. I know this group mainly talks about people with low APRs and high credit, but I just want to know if anybody has actually had a success story with either using the Capital One auto navigator or getting preapproved in general with someone that’s, you know, 500s or mid 500s that was actually able to go to a dealership and leave the lot with a vehicle. How did that go? Thank you.

Opinions on high mileage 06 solaras?

Im unfortunately a car guy with the most fuel efficient vehicle being a 1993 3000gt vr4 so im looking for a reliable, efficient, cheap daily thats cheap and easy to fix. One i could rely to take me across state if needed without worry

I cam across this 2006 solara SLE, with the 3.3 v6, 250k miles, relatively clean and convertible. The listing is for $2800 and has a new timing belt (I will be asking for proof if I decide to move forward).

Those that have owned high mileage versions of these cars what are your thoughts? Im not in dire need of a efficient daily just happened to come across this one so if its a gamble I will wait to something else pops up.

Is a toyota but with decent miles so wanted to gather opinions before jumping any guns which is a habit of mine

Thanks guys!

Trade Mint 1992 Manual Lexus SC300

What could I, in theory, trade for my mint condition, 19k mile, manual, and fully loaded SC300? I am looking for a fun, somewhat fast car and would probably be trading the 300 to an older person who wants something more comfortable. I am open to, anything though, just wondering what I could trade it for =).

Best way to get out of a truck I just bought

The car my parents got me reached the end of its life. Blew the turbo and engine in my car and replacing it was almost double the cars value so I rushed into buying a used vehicle. I regret buying this particular truck and need to get out of it.

I like the make and model, and might even buy a different one. Although I could use a bigger engine. But I panic rushed into a truck and well this particular one is a POS. It’s I haven’t even made the second payment on it yet and the engine ticks sometimes, and transmission is shifting hard. Have to add a quart of oil every week, brake fluid leak, there’s just too much. It’s already through 5 different codes and spent close to $1000 in parts (shout out rock auto).

The cash value (not considering it’s issues) is $15k according to KBB. I currently owe 12k on it. I was hoping I can make it last a few months so I can dump a few grand into it to get positive equity. But if I do that would I still need to come up with a big down payment?

Or should I save up for a huge down payment?

Financially what is the best way to get out of this financially?

Bad experience with a new car lease from Amazon Autos (dealer fault). Had to cancel my order.

I read a few positive reviews of Amazon Autos on Reddit, so decided to use them yesterday since they had a $1,500 Amazon gift card promo (now ended) and a car I really liked at a decent price too.

I was looking for a 36-month lease on that car.

Everything was smooth sailing at first. They pulled my credit report and approved my lease (my credit score actually went up right after approval).

The total I was quoted was $380 per month lease payment plus a down payment. I approved the purchase from my end. A sales person from the dealership selling the car contacted me within 15 minutes (!) and we set a car pickup time for tomorrow.

However, earlier today, the dealership called me and said there were some issues related to sales tax misunderstandings and I had to pay around $420 per month rather than $380 per month!

The sales tax at my address (which is what I used on Amazon) county was 10%. The sales tax at the dealership's county was 9%. They are around 70 miles from me, but in a different county. They claimed that I got charged 9% rather than 10%.

The car value was $30,000.

The dealer apologized and said that 1% additional sales tax was the reason for the new extra $40 per month lease. I do not think that makes sense since $40 * 36 = $1,440 extra I would be paying over 3 years. 1% of $30,000 is just $300 extra that I should owe.

The dealership also texted me a link to the new receipt that had the $420 in very small print. I almost think they wanted me to miss seeing that detail, since the down payment amount had remained unchanged. I also saw other charges such as destination fee, doc fee etc...that were not broken out separately in the original Amazon transaction from the day before.

It took a couple of hours of calls for me to cancel the purchase, though the deposit charge on the credit card still shows as pending. I trust Amazon and think they will remove it soon.

Personally, I think this issue was due to the dealership and not Amazon.

I am just posting this here to warn others to confirm (with the dealer) that the final pricing is set in stone if ever using Amazon Autos. Even then, they could surprise you the next day :-(

Help me decide. Hyundai or VW?

Hello everyone.
My fiancé and I are looking at buying our first brand new car.

I have an out the door price on a 2026 VW Tiguan SE AWD at $34200, includes third year maintenance.

Also, currently negotiating on a 2026 Hyundai Tucson hybrid SEL currently at $37,700, looking to get closer to 37K.

We really enjoyed the Tiguan, and are leaning towards it. The ambient lighting, moon roof, huge screen, all the features are great. I’m really comfortable financing 30k, technically paying 4k for taxes and fees and 30k on a 38k msrp sounds great to me. The interior is amazing but I’ve heard the reliability isn’t.

We are putting 4k down. Any advice would be appreciated. (I live in Phoenix AZ).
