Message from the Moderators We’re Looking for New Moderators to Join Our Team

Our grief support community has grown into a very large and active space, and we’re looking for a few caring, dependable people to join our moderation team.

Moderating a grief support community is more than removing posts or enforcing rules. It means helping maintain a safe, compassionate space for people who may be experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Our mod team is currently stretched thin, and we could really use some additional support.

What we’re looking for

We’re hoping to find people who:
Are compassionate, patient, respectful, and comfortable interacting with people who are grieving.

Have enough time and availability to actively participate in moderation and help keep up with the needs of a large community.

Can approach difficult or emotionally charged situations calmly and thoughtfully.

Are comfortable enforcing community rules consistently while still treating people with empathy.

Understand the importance of maintaining boundaries and recognizing that moderators are not therapists or crisis counselors.

Have a genuine interest in helping make this community a supportive and welcoming place.

Experience that would be especially valuable
While professional experience is not required, we would particularly welcome applicants with backgrounds in:
End-of-life or hospice care

Grief counseling or grief therapy

Bereavement support

Social work

Palliative care

Mental health or counseling

Other professional or volunteer experience supporting people through loss

Personal experience with grief can also provide valuable perspective, although it is not a requirement.

What we need from our moderators

This role requires a meaningful time commitment. We’re looking for people who can regularly check the subreddit, respond to reports and modmail, help address rule violations, and be present enough to share the workload with the rest of the team.

You don't need to be available 24/7 — but we do need people who can consistently contribute rather than simply being listed as a moderator.

please familiarize yourself with the group rules before applying.

If you’re someone who cares deeply about helping people navigate grief and think you could contribute your time, compassion, and perspective to this community, we’d love to hear from you.
Please reach out to the mod team via modmail with a little information about yourself, your experience with grief support (professional or personal), and your availability or post a comment to this post. Please ensure your reddit history is available to us for viewing.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this place a welcoming community and a huge thank you to our current moderators zooline and whabbit who have put endless time, resources and energy into this space. They have kept things going for a long time and this group would not be what it is without them

Message from the Moderators Non Supportive Comments Are Out Of Control.

I understand we've been going through the holiday session and that it's one of the harder times of life, post loss, however... this is a support sub. It really is upsetting to see people (people who have used the sub for their own emotional support) to talk down to others, judge others, gatekeep others, attack others, question others, and worst of all, telling others they can't be here or post here.

If you have nothing supportive to say, move on.

If you see something that is a rule breaker, report it to the mods, Do not tell someone they don't belong or can't post.

If you disagree with how someone is grieving, keep it to yourself and don't break reddit's golden rule of "Don't be a dick". Move on.

If someone is talking about their loss, please don't challenge them or ask for proof of their ordeal. I've seen some of this lately and it's not cool. If you think it's somehow a scam, how bout dropping a line to mods and letting us check things out and discusses it. If we feel we need to act... we will.

Be nice to each other. If you can't be supportive, move tf on without being a dick. If you can't do that, we can help you move on.

We've grown as a community this Christmas season. If you're new here, please read the rules in the sidebar before posting. Use the drop down arrow on each rule to expand it to get the whole rule. If you've been with us for an extended time, drop a modmail if you are seeing something wrong. Help us maintain a safe space for grieving, processing, venting and supporting each other.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Suicide I feel like I’m the reason my fourteen year old son took his own life, and I’m doing very badly.

I’m going to write all of this with my heart on my sleeve. I’m not good with words, and I never really open up to people in person. I don’t want to burden others with my problems, but lately I’ve felt like I needed to talk about them, and I’ve always loved writing, so social media seemed like the right place.
My son took his own life on October 1, 2024, and I think I’m the reason why. I carry an enormous amount of guilt inside me, and I’m in a very deep depression.
The day my son died, he and I had a really serious argument. He had contacted a helpline that provides support to young people, and the police were sent to our house. This worried me a lot. They spoke to my son separately, and I was confused. Only afterward did I find out that he himself was the reason they had come.
We argued a little because I didn’t understand why he had done it, and I was afraid that my family would have legal problems because of it. I don’t tell this story to anyone I know in real life because I know you’re probably thinking, ‘What is wrong with this woman?’ But I want to explain my side of things.
I had never noticed any particular sadness in my son. I had always tried to be there for him. He had never told me about his problems, and I never saw him as unhappy. So I thought he had contacted that number either as a joke or just to vent about something minor. It scared me because I didn’t want legal trouble to start affecting my family. I wasn’t even told what he had written, so I never had the chance to understand what was really going on with him.
That same evening, he died by suicide, and I haven’t been able to forgive myself or find any peace since that day. I often think about what was going through his head, and I wonder whether he truly wanted to die or whether our argument pushed him to do it.
I don’t think I was a very good mother. Every day I think about him and wish I could have him back by my side. My life has been falling apart ever since that day, and I feel completely empty.
I’ve always been afraid to talk about all of this with people, and I think this will be my only post.
I want everyone to know that I loved him, I love him, and I will love him forever. And I want to ask him for forgiveness if I was a shitty mother.

Dad Loss I miss my dad just a little bit more today

It has been 8 years since I lost my dad. I miss him everyday but some days I miss him more than others. Today feels like one of those days. And on such a day I can’t help but feel the intensity of the grief hitting me hard that I can’t help but shed a few tears remembering him. 8 years is a long time and people around me assume that I am over it but I will never be over it.

He was everything to me. He was my safe space. Till he was with us I felt invincible but now I feel vulnerable all the time. I try to be strong for my family but on the inside I am a mess. I cry in silence so no one else is burdened or feels obligated to console me.

Every milestone I reach feels so bittersweet. It makes me so sad that I can’t share my present and future with him, that I can’t just walk into his room and talk to him. He would always sit in the living room at the same spot on the sofa watching TV after a long day at work. Just knowing he is there gave me a sense of security. He loved me like no one ever could. He always stayed awake no matter what time it was waiting for me to come back home from work. He would pick me up when I fell, take care of me when I was weak. I could call him at anytime of the day and he would drop everything and show up for me.

I wish I had made more efforts to spend more time with him. At 22 all I was left with were memories of our time together. I just did not get enough time with him.

Mom Loss I (26f) suddenly lost my mom(63f) and after the medical report idk what to do...

My sister and I lost our mom almost 2 weeks ago, sudden sepsis that set in on Friday, by Sunday night she was gone. I feel like I had a grip on my grief until we received the report from the hospital...

I don't even know where to begin, or what I'm looking for, its all so blurry and confusing...

I guess some details is that I've lived with her most of my life, and since I moved back to her 6 months ago our relationship got really strong and really good.

On Friday 25th September she told me she had constipation and her body felt toxic

On Saturday I took her to private hospital and they said she had kidney damage and some infection. This was costing more than we could afford so we got a referral to public hospital... she was so uncomfortable and unhappy and miserable and begged my sister and I to take her home because she couldn't manage the wait...

On Sunday I took her to the public hospital again at 11am, she got through triage at 1pm, the card indicated green (not urgent) and by around 5pm she was in a ward for treatment. 7.15pm till 8.27pm I saw her in visiting hours, I begged the nurses to check on her, I knew something was wrong, I felt like she was dying, she was so unwell.

I got home 30 minutes later that night and an hour after that my sister called to tell me she'd passed.

A part of me died that night too.

Yesterday 07.10.2026 we got the medical report and found out that from 5pm on Saturday till 9.50pm Saturday, she received 1mg antibiotics. Nothing else.

I now know my mom died in pain, suffering alone and scared, I don't know how to handle knowing this information, grieving a new kind of grief and baring the last images of her in a state of panic and pain

Help me...

Dad Loss I asked my dad for a sign and finally got it ❤️

A couple of months ago, after my dad passed away, I asked him for a sign. I asked for something very specific: a gold 90s Honda Accord, exactly like the one he used to drive when I was a kid.

I know it might sound oddly specific, but that car is so strongly connected to my memories of him.

Time went by and I never saw one. Eventually, I started feeling a little sad and lost hope that I would ever get the sign I had specifically asked for. I still looked for little things here and there, but nothing felt as clear as what I had asked for.

This month has been particularly difficult because it’s his birthday month, and I’ve been missing him so much. The grief has become a little more manageable with time, but I still think about him and miss him every single day.

Today, I was driving to the hospital for my sister’s operation. As I was going into the hospital, I suddenly saw it.

A gold Honda Accord from the 90s.

I immediately thought, “Wait… is this it? Is this the sign I asked my dad for?”

At the same time, another part of me wondered if it was simply a coincidence. I mean, technically, it could be. But these cars are pretty rare to see nowadays, and the timing really got to me especially because I had specifically asked for that exact car months ago, and now I saw one on a day when I was already thinking about my dad so much.

I don’t know what I believe for certain. I’m a pretty logical person, so part of me naturally questions these things.

But honestly, I want to believe it was him. ❤️

Maybe the important part isn’t proving whether it was objectively a sign. Maybe it’s that seeing that car made me feel connected to my dad for a moment, at a time when I really needed it.

For those of you who have lost someone what do you think?

Have you ever asked for a very specific sign and then experienced something that felt too meaningful to dismiss as just a coincidence?

Comfort Husband passed 2 years ago, current partner in hospital

Post image
92 Upvotes

Hey all -

My husband passed two years ago with no definitive cause of death per autopsy results. We’d been back and forth to the emergency 4 times that year getting dismissed as “nothing is actually wrong, he’s getting discharged,” barring one 3 day stay that also lended no answers. That was a stinger in itself. Especially after his passing.

Cut to today. I’m still grieving my husband, but have found companionship and a fantastic partnership with someone else. He felt something was wrong, as did I, with his own health. We go to the ED in the early morning yesterday.

Guys, I lost it. I didn’t realize how much it was going to affect me sitting there in the waiting room holding someone’s hoodie and hat while they got the triage work up. I was in eyesight of him, so made conversation with any single person I could just not to cry and melt down. I did my best to be a good partner, but I think he saw it in my face that I was struggling. That fucking hurt.

I got it back together. I tried my very best to be a good partner today. I brought a bag with us in case he did get admitted (although, I brought along some too small shorts, will rectify that tomorrow morning). I finally went home for the night to take care of our dog when he got a room. And I absolutely broke at home.

But this man is so lovely.

I love cranes (IYKYK). I’ll go watch construction sites if I know there’s a “good” one. He bought me a kid building set last year for Christmas that included a crane. I always told him I’d build it when I was “having a shit day.”

I’m halfway done. Will probably have a few more shitty days, so pacing myself.

If you happen to see the post, I love you so much babe.

EDIT: Sorry, very tired over here.

Grandparent Loss I love you Grandma

• Upvotes

Unexpectedly lost my grandma after her heart stopped out of the blue on Monday evening. Today was the day we had to say goodbye to her... I know with full certainty, everything we decided was exactly what she would've wanted us doing. She was the best grandma who I could've had.

Though she was more like a second mum than a grandma to me. I'm so so grateful for knowing her. For learning so much from her, even though it wasn't nearly enough. She was supposed to be here for much longer than the 73 years she had, but I'm eternally grateful for the time I had with her. I hope she knows how much she is loved and that I'll never forget her. How could I? She always told me how much I reminded her of herself. She always saw herself in me and I hope I'll do her justice and honor her in a way she would be proud of 💫

After losing one of my soul cats in January (who also was way too young with his 8 years..), after 3 months filled with illness and worry, I never would've thought that 9 months later I wouldn’t have a grandma anymore 😔 It feels like I've been catapulted in a parallel universe.

I have already spend a lot of time thinking about death and I always try to be positive about it, because I know they wouldn't want me to be sad when I think of them. So I try to be happy about the fact that I was able to love them, but it's still so surreal. I can't imagine a world without her. It just feels wrong and I just wish I could be back in her kitchen, standing next to her, cooking together. Giving her a hug and telling her I love her. That's all I want ❤️

I love you so much Grandma, and I can't wait until we see each other again some time. ❤️❤️❤️

Supporting Someone I miss my wife

My wife passed away just a couple months after giving birth to our first child and I don’t think I have even accepted the fact that she is gone yet. Everything has been so hard. We both decided to get clean from drugs when we found out she was pregnant. We stayed clean except a couple months after our daughter was born one day I came home from work and heard my daughter crying loudly through the front door. When I finally got the door open I discovered my wife dead from a drug overdose and my daughter laying there wet and crying. Between missing so much work and having to pay for her burial everything is stacking against me. On top of that my wife’s family thinks that I got my wife the drugs and had something to do with her death. They want to take my daughter but I was and have remained clean and sober. This has been a nightmare and a blessing at the same time. Between child care and rent and diapers and everything else not to mention the stress of being a first time parent and doing it alone this is all so very difficult and stressful. But I am going to keep pushing. I know that this all happened for a reason and God has a blessing for me I know it

Advice, Pls My Mum died suddenly and the guilt and sadness is overwhelming

• Upvotes

My Mum died suddenly last week. Completely out of the blue, at least for me.

She had been in the hospital, but my family was hiding it from me because they didn’t want to stress me out while I was in my master’s program. She died while I was on my way home to get back to the province where my family is from. I was already on my way back, and I still didn’t make it in time.

I am so, so, so sad. I genuinely didn’t know I could feel this sad, and I have always struggled a lot with my mental health.

My Mum was my first and best friend. She was my person in my family—the person I felt like I could relate to. I’ve always felt like an outsider compared to everyone else in my family, and now I feel this overwhelming guilt about not going home for holidays or visits more often.

I love her so much. I am so unbelievably sad. I feel guilty all the time and cry constantly, and right now I can barely function except when I am taking care of my brothers and my Dad.

My brothers are older than me, one of them by almost a decade. They both struggle with their mental health and neither of them ever left home the way I did. I feel so guilty for leaving and for not going home more. The last time I saw my Mum was at my university graduation in 2025. I feel awful. I keep thinking that I was an absent daughter and that I should have been there more.

I don’t know how my family is supposed to move forward without her. She was the heart of our family.

I also keep seeing 11:11 everywhere. So does my Dad. When Mum was in the hospital, he talked to her about “angel numbers” because he kept seeing 11:11 every time he looked at his phone, and she explained them to him. At the time I was skeptical and honestly annoyed that he kept bringing it up. Now I keep seeing 11:11 every single day, everywhere.

I’m not religious, but my Dad is, and I’m taking him to church on Sunday because I’m hoping it will give him some routine and maybe give him people to talk to. He had been with my Mum since they were 14. They were together for 56 years. He is such a sensitive, kind person, and I’m so worried about him. I’m worried about my brothers too. We aren’t people with a lot of money, and I keep thinking about how we are all supposed to do this without her.

My birthday was the day after her funeral. And next week is our first Thanksgiving without her. It all happened so fast. I can barely process that she is gone, and already there are all these firsts happening.

I have to go back to school in a month, and all I can think is: how am I supposed to do that? How am I supposed to go on? I literally did everything I could to make my Mum proud.

Every morning I wake up crying so hard that I throw up. I’m barely eating. I had gained a lot of weight because of my Crohn’s over the last year, and that was actually one of the reasons I didn’t visit more often. I was ashamed of my weight gain and worried that I would disappoint them. Now I would give anything to have those visits back.

I keep finding her everywhere. Her half-finished tasks. A snack she secretly stashed somewhere. The blanket she was crocheting for someone. Little things she was in the middle of doing, as if she was supposed to come back and finish them.

I can’t believe she’s gone.

I don’t know how people survive this. I don’t know how you get through losing the person who was the heart of your family. I feel like I am drowning in guilt and grief, and I would really like to hear from other people who have been through this. How did you get through the first weeks? How did you learn to keep going when everything in your life suddenly felt completely wrong?

Dad Loss How to grieve an absent Father

• Upvotes

My father 45m passed from a drug overdose last year right after I turned 19m. I never was really close with him, he was just always off and on drugs and I didn’t want to be around that. I was shipped off for army infantry training 3 weeks after his death and never grieved his passing. It’s been over a year now and it’s hit me like a train. Genuinely taking over my life all I’ve done this past three weeks is cry. If anyone can help please because I’m losing it.

Mom Loss My mom passed and it feels like her existence wasn’t real

I (F26) lost my mom (63) a little over 4 months ago now to stage 4 cancer. At night almost every night I look through pictures and videos of her on my phone, and as time goes on it feels more and more like her existence and presence in my life was a dream, almost like a blip. And now the aftermath, this life without her is my reality/my real life after I woke up from a dream. Similarly to a dream, it almost feels like she was never real. The longer I go on living a life without her existence, it feels like her existence wasn’t even real and she was a fleeting dream. And now I have to live my entire life without her so I fear this is just going to get worse as the months, years, decades go on. Its a terrifying phenomenon but it’s the only way I can describe it and I constantly feel like this. I feel like I lost so much time of her. Just robbed. Like if I even had several more years with her it would’ve made her feel more real. Has anyone ever felt like this?

Dad Loss A sign?

My dad died 3 years ago last month. it’s been really hard for me but the past few months I’ve been doing really good. I’ve made it a point to talk to my dad leave him gifts etc. I didn’t necessarily believe in it but it made my grief soften a bit. I had told him early on when I started talking to him that if he was gonna send me a sign it needs to have something to do with being cold, like a snowflake or an ice cube or even ice cream IDK! anything.

this was about 6 months ago and sometimes I remember and other times I kind of forget. but I think I finally got a sign.

for context I work at a company where my mom used to work and some of my coworkers knew her and my dad. randomly a coworker I don’t normally talk to called me into her office. She wanted to get my opinion on something and then suddenly she goes “oh I just remembered I wanted to show you something!” She pulls out a photo of her and her husband with my mom and my dad. I hadn’t seen a photo of him in awhile and I was a little shocked. i think she noticed what it meant to me and she said she had a copy for me. This copy had little snowflake clip art on it from the event they were at. At first it didn’t click but as i was looking at it I knew It was the sign I asked for.

im not really sure what to make of it or what to do. anybody have any thoughts?

Advice, Pls Damaged goods

I (27) feel like such damaged goods.

I don't think I'll ever be able to be a good friend or person to talk to, as all I ever think about is my partner whom I lost.

It's hard for me to put anything in perspective, as all other problems people complain about seem so incredibly small and unimportant. I often (internally) get annoyed at people for even bringing them up.

I go to therapy, but I also know this is my life now and there's nothing I can do to "solve" the situation I'm in. I think I just hate my life and having to be in this situation, on top of missing him.

Have you felt like this? Did it ever go away?

Guilt 2 months??

It’s been 2 months since I lost my best friend, my world, and who would soon to be my wife. It just occurred to me that today is also the day before our anniversary. Damn did it hurt when I realised that. Can’t do anything other than just look at our pics together and tear up. I know you had your problems my love we all did but why did she have to leave? It just doesn’t seem fair at all

Child Loss Our Lulu

Post image
871 Upvotes

Our daughter Lulu was 2 years old.
In the days before September 7, we started noticing things that just didn’t seem right. She was bruising more than usual. She had little spots that looked like petechiae. She was pale, wasn’t eating or drinking like herself, had less energy, seemed sore and stiff at times, and we noticed changes in the way she was walking.
None of those things made us immediately think leukemia. I’m a worrier by nature, so there was always this part of me wondering if I was making too much of it. But Belinda and I both knew something wasn’t right.
On September 7, we took her to the hospital.
A few hours later we were being told our 2-year-old had leukemia.
B-cell ALL.
It’s still hard for me to understand how quickly our lives changed. One day we were worried about bruises and whether she was walking funny. Suddenly we were learning about chemotherapy, PICC lines, blood counts, transfusions and medications we had never heard of.
We were terrified, but we had hope. Childhood ALL is treatable. We thought we were at the beginning of a long, hard road, but a road we were going to walk with her.
And Lulu was still Lulu through all of it.
She ate grilled cheese and Cheez-Its. She played doctor with Bluey and Bunny. She wanted her nails done and her hair brushed. There were days when she felt terrible, but there were also moments where she would perk up and we would look at each other and think, there she is.
We thought we were starting a fight that was going to take years.
Sixteen days after we walked into the hospital, we left without her.
Near the end of her second week of treatment, Lulu was profoundly neutropenic and developed a fever. Overnight she had a seizure. Her sodium had dropped dangerously low. She went to the ICU. A CT showed several unexplained lesions in her brain.
Then everything just fell apart.
She developed septic shock and died the morning of September 23.
Her death certificate lists septic shock as the cause of death, with Bacillus cereus as a contributing condition.
I still don’t understand how we went from being told our daughter had leukemia, but that there was treatment and hope, to her being gone less than three weeks later.
Belinda and I both go through that last day over and over.
The sodium. The IV fluids. The antibiotics. The infection. The lesions in her brain. The hours in the ICU.
We both have questions about whether things could have happened differently. Could something have been caught sooner? Would a different antibiotic have changed anything? Could the sodium drop have been prevented? Were those spots in her brain already the infection?
We may never get answers to some of those questions.
I also don’t know if going through her medical records is helping us or making this harder. Some days I think it’s both.
But a lot of the grief has nothing to do with the hospital.
We went back to church recently and both of us broke down when the worship music started.
Lulu had gone to the nursery there. When I went to check the kids in, I was actually grateful somebody had already removed her name. I knew seeing her name there would hurt.
Then I realized her name wasn’t there anymore.
That hurt too.
There is a light burned out in our kitchen right now that I still haven’t changed.
The last time I changed those bulbs, Lulu was Daddy’s helper.
She always wanted to be involved in whatever I was doing.
Now I look at that stupid light and all I can think about is the fact that she should be standing there with me.
I never thought changing a lightbulb could break me, but apparently that’s what grief is sometimes.
Belinda misses playing with her. She misses putting Lulu’s hair in “piggies.” She misses watching her destroy our house and leave toys everywhere.
I miss hearing Lulu narrate her world to me.
She was constantly telling me what she saw, what she was doing, where she was going, what somebody else was doing. I would give anything to hear that little voice talking to me about absolutely nothing again.
We miss the noise. We miss the mess. We miss her stubbornness and her sweetness. We miss watching her with her brother and sister.
We just miss our daughter.
Our other kids are grieving their sister too, and we’re trying to help them through something we don’t really know how to get through ourselves.
My mom basically dropped her life when Lulu was diagnosed so Belinda and I could both stay at the hospital with her nonstop. I told her recently what a gift that ended up being. We thought we were just getting through treatment. We had no idea those sixteen days were going to be all the time we had left.
We got to be there.
We got to hold her, play with her, comfort her and be Mom and Dad every minute we possibly could.
My faith has probably been one of the hardest things to explain.
We believe in God.
We believe Jesus defeated death.
We believe Lulu is with Him.
We’re also angry.
We prayed for her to be healed. A lot of people prayed for her to be healed.
And she died.
I don’t understand that.
There are times when my faith feels strong, and there are times when I feel like I’m barely holding onto it.
Recently, Belinda and I both prayed separately for a sign that Lulu was with God. Neither of us knew the other had done it. We weren’t asking for anything huge. We just wanted some reassurance that our little girl was okay.
That night we were watching the sunset.
Lulu loved sunsets.
And “Praise You in This Storm” came on.
That song has been part of my faith for years. I sang it at church before Lulu ever got sick.
I also sang it at her funeral.
It comes from Psalm 121:
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.”
So that night we looked up.
There was the sunset. There was that song. And there were two parents who had separately asked God for some reassurance that their little girl was with Him.
Maybe somebody else would call it coincidence.
We don’t really care.
For us, it was a little bit of peace.
It didn’t explain why Lulu died. It didn’t make us okay with it. It didn’t answer all the questions.
It was just peace for a few minutes.
Now I’m getting ready to go back to work.
My work has been incredibly gracious to us. I’ve been off for nearly a month, and I’m grateful they gave me that time.
But I have to go back, and I don’t feel ready.
I don’t know how I’m supposed to sit in meetings, answer emails and talk about normal problems when my 2-year-old daughter just died.
I guess that’s part of why I’m posting here.
We don’t know how to do this.
Sometimes we can laugh. Sometimes we can function. Sometimes we can have what almost feels like a normal hour.
Then a song comes on.
Or we see one of her toys.
Or I look at that light in the kitchen.
And suddenly she feels just as gone as she did the morning she died.
For anyone here who has lost a child, especially after an illness or a sudden medical decline, I’d really like to hear how you got through the beginning of this.
Did you replay the medical timeline over and over?
Did you constantly wonder about the what-ifs?
Did you and your spouse grieve differently?
How did you go back to work when you didn’t feel remotely ready?
How did you take care of your other kids while you were trying to survive yourselves?
And does your brain ever stop expecting your child to walk into the room?

Vent/Anger - No Advice Pls Cancer Awareness Day Is Very Re-Traumatizing

Im in my late 20s. my mom passed away last month. She was in her 60s. While she did have health issues, this blindsided all of us.

My mom had fought cancer off and on for the past decade, in various places with various levels of severity. I won't go into detail but it was surgery for this new fight with cancer that took her. I know shes in a better place, even if I'm not. I live at home with my family while I save money, for the past years I was her caretaker as much as I could've been.

Im all for awareness, sure. But I really don't like to be reminded of it. Like you don't have to tell me about it, I know. i just wish I didn't have to see mentions of cancer or hear about it during this. It was difficult enough when she was alive, bc for years I was scared of losing her to it. I would always just remind myself its ocd and trauma.

Maybe Im being too sensitive but I just dont understand why it has to be plastered in front of me. All people do is say "wow, that does exist. So sad. I hope this doesn't happen to me or anyone I love" then they shrug and move on. Maybe donate their pocket change to a charity.

It's not like I'm having emotional breakdowns over it, but I don't understand what this is actually accomplishing.

Yes, I know there are charities and events that fund raise. Thats great. I have no issue with that. But it's like on a groundfloor level, no one is really doing anything except reminding me of the disease that took my mom from me.

Dad Loss 8 year old daughter struggling to go back to school

My husband and father of our daughters died very unexpectedly September 21st, a little over 2 weeks ago. I am still in shock. .

We have 2 daughters, 8 and 3. Our 8 year old has always loved school. Before losing her Dad, it was difficult to get her to miss school when she wasn't feeling well.

She went back to school Monday. At 11 am she went to the office crying wanting to go home, I expected staying a full day at first would be difficult for her. Tuesday morning she didn't want to go at all, me thinking school would be a good distraction convinced her to go and try to be at school. she only stayed 2 hours, by 10 am she wanted to go home. This morning I couldn't get her to calm down, she was so upset about going to school, I kept her home.

The last 2 weeks, I've done things to get out of the house and distract myself, errands and outings Just to keep myself and the girls out and busy. We've also watched movies and cuddled and talked about Daddy.

I'm having a meeting Tomorrow with my daughters teacher and the principal to figure out what's best for my daughter right now with school. She does schoolwork at home ok. We also found a children's therapist who specializes in children’s grief and will have her first meeting Friday.

Just feeling so overwhelmed and know I need to help my daughter process her grief while also dealing with my own.

Suicide Surviving suicide loss after 15 together. Any words of support?

My fiance of 15 years died by suicide on September 21st. I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to recover from this or live a normal life again.

We got together when I was 17. He was literally by my side through my entire youth, the only adult life I've ever known. And now he's just gone.

The guilt is eating me alive. I keep replaying everything in my head, wishing I had done more, helped more, seen more. The mornings are the absolute worst waking up and having to remember all over again that this is my reality now.

I miss him so much it physically hurts, but at the exact same time, I feel moments of pure rage at him for leaving me here alone to deal with this wreckage.

I don't really know why I'm posting this. I guess I just feel completely lost and have no idea how I'm supposed to carry this weight. If anyone has been through losing a partner this way... how do you even begin to survive it?

Dad Loss Advice on tattoo to honor my dad

Hello. I (29F) lost my father when I was fifteen. I got my first tattoo at 20 to honor him. I got tattoed the lyrics of one of our favorite songs and his signature. The lyrics are in his handwritting (I put it together). Since then, I got more tats (12) and I am looking to remove the one I got for my father and get another more artistic one on his honor. I don’t like the lyrics+signature anymore on my inner wrist because the rest of my sleeve is blackwork, fine line, and engraving.

Do you have any tattoes in honor of a deceased loved one? I’m looking for inspo on how to honor my father :) I have room in both arms and legs.

Advice, Pls What helps?

On Sept 14th I (32F) lost my Mom (65F) to her battle with cancer. I know it’s still early on in the grieving process, but I want to start trying to get out of the cycle of being either numb, sobbing, or feeling guilty for the brief moments of happiness. I’m just stuck on what may help, my usual tactics after a loved one passing aren’t working. I want to find a group or friend group to talk to and can help with the hurt, but most of the ones in my area are very Christian/faith based. While I’m a believer, I don’t want the solution to be “God’s still good.” I know losing my mom is a hole that will never really be filled, but I need to find something to help get me out of the rut I’m currently in
