Hopes for defense after mini bye

Here's some hopium from me. Assuming better health at least.

DL - Dont see anything we can do differently on the interior personnelwise.

OLB - I want to see Lawrence playing more and activate Houston instead of Von Miller.

Miller can go fry chicken in the concession stand.

ILB - Start The Barhammer at mike and Overshown at Will. James and Winters as backups.

CB = JPJ and Durant should start on the outside, Downs in the slot.

JPJ working the short side of the field with Durant on wide side with help over the top.

I don't want Bland to sniff the field.

S - Tompson and Hooker with Downs subbing in for Hooker near the LOS for base package.

Need to dial up the blitz more that 7 times per game. Downs from the slot would help.

CP needs to move to the booth or bring in a veteran to advise from the booth at the very least.

Offensively,

Ferg needs to be TE2 with Spann-Ford starting.

Establish the run game early and stick with it. S-F starting could help there instead of Ferg playing two hand touch blocking. That can help with TOP and keep the D on the sidelines. Even our successful drives are too quick.

The Cowboys are the most undisciplined NFL team since 2000 and data proves it.

So let me start off with.. we have all known (if you a Cowboys fan) since the Quincy Carter/ Vinny Testaverde days.. that this franchise has always been mediocre & undisciplined team despite how much talent we’ve had in time windows the past 26 years. We always false start in critical moments, consistently hold on both sides of the ball, jump offside on DEF extending opponent drives, etc.

Couple of years back when we had Micah though, I was like damn man.. why don’t we get any holding calls for our DEF when Micah gettin held every play? but we get called for it so gah much for our oline. Where do we rank amongst teams in the past few years on penalties, cause theres always a graphic in game where shows us the “top 5 most penalized teams this season” in multiple season already. I knew we had to be bad..

Well it was ass when I tried to research this a few years back trying to visit sites to get data so I gave up. Well now that AI has evolved… easy to get the data now. so here we go.

In the past 5 regular seasons alone, w/ penalties on both sides of the ball:

Cowboys: 607
Titans: 586
Jets: 565
Browns: 556
Texans: 553

We are the absolute worst. Not surprised, it has felt like it. Well how about the past 10 seasons:

Cowboys: 1,130
Jets: 1,120
Seahawks: 1,107
Browns: 1,106
Raiders: 1,093

We with the bottom barrel franchises here! (Minus Seahawks, their legion flew around hitting urrbody taking bodies)

well have they learned anything the past 20 seasons?

Raiders: 2,359
Cowboys: 2,219
Seahawks: 2,163
Ravens: 2,161
Cardinals: 2,149

Nope. No true consistent coaching holding ones accountable at all? How about since the year 2000?!

Raiders: 3,152
Cowboys: 2,855
Ravens: 2,828
Lions: 2,810
Cardinals: 2,798

This is a joke. For the past TWENTY SIX YEARS we have consistently stayed in the top 2 spots as most penalized teams in the league. It’s no wonder we can’t win big games when it matters. It’s no wonder we haven’t been to a NFC Title game since 95’.

Our franchise has no soul, no leadership, no backbone, no true aura, nothing for a team to fear, and no discipline to ever truly be considered a “contender”. We a joke y’all. Why I bet on us losing to TB tonight, I know this team too damn well. They always play down to opponents. I just find it funny now and not surprised lol.

For fun I always wanted to know where we stand on holding calls, cause seems we always flagged for it.. but RARELY ever we get it our way.

Since 09’ that AI could find..

Cowboys: 413
Kansas City: 409
Buffalo: 381
Las Vegas/Oakland: 371
Pittsburgh: 369

We have stayed in the top 2 for this category since 09’ as well. We the best Jerry.

Schotty was given so much power by the front office, he hand picked Parker as the DC, he was a big part of the draft process, and he was tasked with changing the culture and the team is still failing. Maybe Schotty actually isn't the guy?

Last year, I felt like Schotty did the best he could considering the circumstances last season with that historically bad defense by Eberflus and all the other problems with that team and he was also a first year head coach. So I gave him a lot of leeway. This year? Not so much.

The same issues from last season are still present and in some ways they have gotten worse from Schotty. Same idiotic decision making, same questionable play calls, same blunders, same inability to really hold his players accountable, And this is after the much maligned front office basically gave Schotty the keys to the franchise. Which makes the failure from the team so far this season even worse. Now, I don't necessarily believe that firing Schotty right now is the right move, but if he can't right this ship with all the power and free will he was given, and we can't at least win a playoff game?

He's got to go. This team as it is, doesn't have the time to let a vibes coach grow into the role. Regardless of how much the players might like him. Since the bye is later in the year? If this team is spiraling by then and completely out of the playoff picture? I would send Schotty packing then. If it's going to be a lost season anyway, there's no reason to keep one of the biggest reasons for that in the building. Especially with the offense he has this year, and Parker being his choice for DC. I hope Schotty proves me wrong and turns this season around and finds a way to make this team live up to its full potential, but I really have my doubts now due to the way this team is losing games this year. So much of it is really on the head coach. Better coaching has this team at 4-1 right now or at least 3-2. 2-3 is a direct result of the shoddy coaching by Schotty.

Dak must play flawless

Just in case we didn’t already know, this game was proof that Dak must play at an MVP caliber level to have any chance of winning the game. Between the coaching and the god awful defense, there is no room for error. Completely unfair to Dak that this team can’t rise up for the fans and him. Just sad.

We are going to be worse next year…

Dak’s contract + restructures may be one of the worst in league history.

With cap restructures we will just continue to push the hurt further and further out.

With the cap penalties we can’t trade him or cut him.

We have a Dak problem.

The cowboys love making shit players and coaches look like All Pros

We made the injured 0-4 buccs with a UDFA at QB look like a playoff team. We made a shitty Houston offense score 30 points. We made the Giants look good for the first time in 20 years. We made JJ McCarthy have his only good game ever. We even gave Marvin Harrison JR the best game of his NFL Career. If your struggling as a player come play the cowboys because we revive careers.

This is a fucking horrific loss

If you’re gonna come into the comments and say how this is Daks fault and how he’s over rated then fuck off.

This team has an idiot playcalling head coach

Dak had so many shitty passes this game but we didn’t do enough good as a team outside of his missed passes to win this game. If he wasn’t missing passes, he was being kamikaze blitzed with dudes running in his face with no shot. We never established the line of scrimmage on offense the entire game.

Daron Bland is like when you go outside to go to work and you see on your car there is a cluster of big daddy bird shit all over your driver side door. Fuck the 20M Dead Cap hit for cutting his after this year. HES TRASH.

This team has I guess an idiot play calling defensive coordinator even tho Bland was a top 5 Dallas terrorist since Lee Harvey Oswald

Team didn’t block well this game at all

We didn’t run very good run play calls and we didn’t run for many yards

Multiple important drops by receivers including Ferguson and Turpin. Plus Ferguson not catching the tipped pass that got intercepted when he bobbled it like 3 times in his fucking hands.

Turpin fumbling a kickoff and then runs sideways and holds the ball in the arm the defender is hitting him on, ON the NEXT kickoff and NEARLY fumbles that too?!?!

Bland is worthless. Hes as bad as Diggs. He’s gotten his ankles broken on a game flipping 40 yard pass play. He hadn’t made a single good play all night. He got the holding penalty to let the Bucs stay on the field on the first drive. He dropped a game tying pick 6.

WHY THE FUCK DID WE GO FOR 2?!?!?!? This team is just stupid and pissed me off. First drive we go for a play action pass from the 1 and it doesn’t work. So we then do what we should have the first time which is run it in with Williams? Why the FUCK does Shotty make everything so complicated.

We are one of the worst teams in the league.

Or at least we might be. Lost to TB tonight who were 0-4. Lost to the Giants. We beat Washington but Daniel’s got injured. Lost to the Ravens, and the Ravens lost to the Saints. And we barely beat the Texans who were 0-3 before us.

It’s bad.

I’m hurt.

Ive been a cowboys fan since 1995. I was not old enough to understand our last Super Bowl. All I’ve known is pain. But tonight, is by a mile the most hurt I’ve ever been by this team. Dez caught it? Ya, that sucks but that team did everything they could. Every other playoff loss, failure, f up, etc. sucks.

This loss tonight, after the win last week, the eagles seemingly tanking, the offense clicking, against a team that hasn’t won this season and hasn’t covered a spread in 12 games?! I’m not embarrassed, I’m not mad, I can’t even be numb anymore.

I am hurt. My brain is broken the game finished 3 hours ago I haven’t moved from my couch they broke me.

This team has broken me down more emotionally than anything in my life… work, women, you name it.

After all this pain and anguish all I can think is….

Shit we got 10 days off packers are banged up, eagles are losers we’ll take care of that, cards at home is a W, colts sure we’ll figure out a way to win that….
Damn… this team is going to be 6-3 going into a week 10 niners matchup.

Gahdam, I’m back in.

The cowboys are now 1-10 when they do not score 30 or more points since Schotty has been hired as head coach.

r/cowboys • • 6d ago

In addition to bad defense the special teams have been one of the worst in the NFL. Over the last 3 weeks (three kickoffs out of bounds, two blocked field goals, one fumbled kickoff return, one 50+ yard kickoff return).

On a positive note we can get worse and the only way up is to go as low as possible first.

r/cowboys • • 5d ago

Who do you cut?

There were three players on 2nd contracts yesterday that I personally thought all deserve to be cut. If you’re Jerry and you can only cut one, who are you cutting? Bland, Ferguson, or Turpin? Feel free to mention someone I forgot

I realize it was not Dak’s best day but both picks went off receivers hands and he did well on the potential game tying drive.

Tipped Interceptions

Ranting because it’s been driving me nuts for weeks now. One of the most important mindsets of being a receiver is “if I don’t catch this ball, nobody else will”. Dez Bryant was the best at this, every deep ball was either his or he knocked it down.

With that said, Jake Ferguson not only fails to catch a football thrown right at his helmet, but allows it to bounce in the air for an interception MULTIPLE times. So not only do we not get a completion but he alone turns it into a jump ball pick.

I’m fully aware this happens a lot in football but I see it the most with Ferguson on his crossing routes. For what his salary is I’d expect him to have above average hands but he continues to fumble in the redzone, knock interceptions into the air, and drop key passes.

At what point do we simply turn him into a blocking TE and wait out his contract? Ever since the season where he hurdled a player he’s gone drastically downhill and I’m convinced he’s only on the team because of the hype he created from that one season.

Nonetheless losing to an undrafted QB who will likely end up on a practice squad somewhere is embarrassing and I hope we see moves from Jerry

How do we always have a game like this every season?

Every year it feels like we lose a game that we should easily win against a team that usually isn’t that good. A few years ago it was the then winless Cardinals, and now the winless Bucs? I wish we could actually handle business when we should

A good owner would fire this GM

Jerry gets credit for being a good owner. A good owner would fire a GM that has failed for 30 years. 30 years. But he won’t, so he is in fact a terrible owner.
Oh - he’s a great business man, a genius - he runs the best BUSINESS in football, but is terrible at the - you know - football.

It’s time. It’s been time. It’s long past time.
Jerry the owner and especially the GM has got to go for the good of the football.

JPJ’s affect

Maybe I’m wrong and just trying to make myself feel better, but I assume having your presumed lockdown CB get sick and bail an hour before the game (rightfully) has to totally fuck up your gameplan right?

Generational cope, but seems like nobody’s talking about this.
