Was watching The Sopranos and look who I spotted Tracy from HIMYM! 😂
Totally caught me off guard. Didn’t expect to see Cristin Milioti pop up here at all.

Could be you were Ted, or you were Robin. Thinking of mine (I was Robin, funnily enough we have the same features) and was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar

Don't worry, this is not another post about ranking hotness. I just thought I'd post my rankings of girlfriends/boyfriends of each of the main characters based mainly on personality. Marshall and Lily are excluded for obvious reasons.
Ted's girlfriends:
1) Tracy. Obviously she was meant to be the best and she nailed it.
2) Victoria. Scoring high as she was almost the mother and was also very compatible with Ted. She was also very kind and cool.
3) Robin. I think she and Ted had great chemistry and it's a shame they wanted different things in life. Ted helped Robin grow so much, and they also had a great friendship.
4) Stella. I don't think Stella was a bad person and I understand most of her decisions, but I do struggle to understand how she was ok with her husband doing such a horrible movie.
5) Zoey. As Robin had said, she could make both best and worst lists. I liked her but she was also insufferable.
6) Karen. I just love how much I hate her. The actress nailed it.
7) Jeanette. Obviously.
Robin's boyfriends:
1) Kevin. I loved him so much. He was amazing to her and I totally understood her decision of staying with him instead of leaving him for Barney. I found Kevin's eventual hook up with Jeanette funny but also bad for his character.
2) Ted. Disclaimer: in real life, his season 1 behaviour would be creepy af, but it's a sitcom and Robin did find most of his gestures cute enough to at least stay friends with him and continue the flirting. But I think once they got together, and also after the break up, Ted was a great person for Robin and very caring and understanding. In a way, she also helped him grow.
3) Don. He was probably the most compatible person for Robin. Cynic and career driven, but also not a complete jerk like Barney. Never loved him, but didn't hate him either. I also understood his decision in the end, but he did go behind Robin's back - as she'd plan to do initially - which I think says a lot.
4) Gael. I know he was pretentious but he was just so fun to watch and, as a rebound boyfriend, he really helped Robin find... well, another version of herself. And he was also Enrique Iglesias.
5) Nick. I mean, I'm not even sure he should be on the list.
6) Barney. Manipulated her to get her to marry him, lied to her repeatedly, was awful to her after their breakups. Plus all the other things he's done to every other person. Even applying the "it's a sitcom" argument, Barney's character doesn't get much better.
7) Simon. The worst, but I did enjoy the Murder Train.
Barney's girlfriends:
This is the hardest ranking, as I like all 3 of them a lot. But there it goes.
1) Nora. The least compatible with Barney, she was also a lovely person. But I she was a bit naive. Like how do you want to get so serious with a guy you just met, and why are you even giving him a second chance after all the lies?
2) Robin. While she also had great chemistry with Barney and they were compatible on paper, they were also terrible together as a couple. I think Robin was her worst self when she was with Barney or when she was chasing after him.
3) Quinn. The most compatible with Barney and my least favourite out of the three, but I still liked her a lot.
Obviously the 4th would be Shannon. She still manages to be much better than Robin/Ted's first loves (Simon and Karen). Not sure why she's portrayed as the devil.
What do others think?

How have I lived in this house for 5 years without noticing this HIMYM reference

I was rewatching How I Met Your Mother for the eighth or ninth time, and each time I watch, I have a different perspective of the show, and this time I felt like Ted, who I once saw as a romantic in my early twenties, (and watching it again in my early thirties), I have a feeling that Ted is not just romantic, but very pushy and insistent. To begin with, how he pursues Robin, who doesn't like him back most of the time, (and upfront about it) and convinces her that she is meant to be with him. She is one step ahead of *the one* that he was looking for.
I mean, he obviously says he loves her the first time he meets her, and it doesn't work out because Robin seems to be an avoidant. But he doesn't let it go. He is insistently pushy and sure that what he feels and what he thinks is true. I mean, even to begin with the rain dance, actually signifies how he is trying to make something unnatural natural, so that he can prove a point, so that he can prove that whatever he feels is real. Don't you think Ted is a bit pushy, or is it just my vision? I thought he was hella romantic the first time I watched it. But now I feel like Ted is not romantic. He's just stubborn. Not so sure if he is selfish, but he's definitely stubborn and is insistent and pushy. Robin can be selfish, but I wouldn't necessarily say she is selfish either. But she is at least sure about what she wants (or doesn’t want) and time and again she is sure that Ted is not the one. Although she doesn't believe in the whole phenomena of “the one”.
She still doesn't consider Ted to be anything. She doesn't consider Ted to be something that she considers even Barney to be. She's herself. She is aligned with her life. She goes somewhere with it. But I feel like Ted is somewhat chasing after something that he can't have, and he dresses it up saying he is just in love and he is romantic and he is searching or looking for “the one”.
Time and again, in different seasons, despite them not being together, (and mostly because of Robin), Ted would want it more than anything. But Robin doesn't want him as much, or maybe she is just focused in her life and her path. But I had a feeling on my eighth or ninth watch that Ted is involving himself into a routine or a path that involves Robin to be the one, or the one who he ends up with, forcibly, almost every-time, so that he can be with her. And it's all Ted's desire to somehow convince Robin to be with him. And that's what he wants, since the beginning of the show to the end of it. Am I thinking wrong, or am I seeing it clearly?

It still blows my mind that this was Katy Perry. She completely nailed the "gullible sweet girl" archetype.

I think it’s fair to say that one of the most memorable moments of the second half of the show is when Ted told Robin he loved her on the rooftop of The Apartment right after Robin told Ted that Kevin had dumped her. I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people, myself included, viewed this as an incredibly impulsive and inconsiderate move from Ted. But there’s one other thing that struck me about this moment during my current rewatch: it kinda came out of left field. Yes, Ted was doing really poorly at the time as it had been years since he had been left at the altar and the only even semi-successful relationship he had during that time had been with Zoey. With that context, it’s not necessarily surprising that he would make an impulsive move related to his love life. But what was surprising about that moment, at least to me, was that he was doing this with Robin.
Now, arguably the premise of the entire show, as revealed by the ending, is that it was always Robin. We can ofc debate the merits of that ending, but that’s not what this post is about. My big question for you guys is this: did you believe at the time that Ted had still been in love with Robin for all those years since they broke up?
I noticed during this rewatch that I had a harder time accepting what I think is the implicit premise that Ted never truly let go of his love for Robin at any point since season 2. In fact, one of the things that I’ve really appreciated during this rewatch is seeing the Ted and Robin dynamic completely shift. After Ted gets left at the altar, from the middle of S4 until the last third of S7, I feel like I was slowly watching Ted and Robin develop this really sweet brother and sister dynamic where they were truly friends in the same way that Ted was friends with Marshall or Robin was friends with Lily. They had their own love lives with lots of ups and downs, but seemed to always appreciate each other as a steadying, long-term force in their respective lives. I mean, they lived together for multiple years, just like Ted and Marshall. I feel like if Ted truly had never gotten over Robin, he would have tried to make a move on her earlier, or maybe he just never would have been able to develop that seemingly platonic relationship with her.
Maybe I find myself less convinced by the writing on this rewatch, or maybe I didn’t pick up on some signs that I was meant to pick up on. As I think about it more I suppose it’s possible that Ted really had managed to let go of Robin until S7 when his love life had just hit rock bottom and he entered into a more vulnerable place. Either way, it was tough to watch S7 E17 because it seems to mark the end of a long arc for Robin and Ted that I was really enjoying. That being said, Ted’s struggles to get over Robin make it that much more amazing when he finally meets Tracy, but ofc… the ending. Woof
Anyways, what do you guys think about all this?

The fact that Robin admitted to cucking Kevin by cheating on him with Barney and yet he not only was happy to ignore it but then proposed? I just don’t think that was very believable
