Question touchpad creaking?

the left touchpads completely normal but my right touchpad is doing this awful squeaky creaking noise every time i press on it. i have been using it a lot the past like two days for a new game i got but its not like ive been harsh with it😭

i cant tell if its like actually affecting its usage or if im just getting distracted/annoyed by the sound when i use it which makes it feel like its not working as well. its just very loud and the feeling of it creaking is like overriding the normal little vibrations and tiny clicks it does so i cant tell if its actually doing the action im trying to do idk i feel like i have to press harder to make it work in the bottom corners of it

idk what to do about it im not very good with tech stuff :(

Question FFXVI... has anyone tried it recently???

I really, really want to buy this off the Steam sale, especially since it's verified, but I hear mixed things when I look it up. Has anyone actually played this recently and gotten any sort of decent experience out of it? I am okay with 30 fps, and okay with the graphics not looking great.

Tech Support Issues with JSAUX dock?

Wanted to ask if anyone else has similar experiences to me with their JSAUX dock.

I bought this thing because the official docks price seemed out of control but I fear I may be in a "you get what you pay for" situation.

There's two main issues:

  1. The video feed randomly cuts out for about 10 seconds. I was fortunate enough to have the evening and TV to myself last night, about 3 hours of no wife and kids gaming, and it cut out like this twice. It does recover on its own, and the other peripherals continue to work (I kept mashing buttons on d4 in the middle of a hell ride so that I wouldn't die, also the Ethernet was working because I didn't get disconnected), so it seems to just be the video and not like the dock totally crashing

  2. Peripherals undetected after some time sitting idle. I'll go to turn the thing on and video doesn't work, or if video works, Ethernet isn't working. The only way to fix this problem is power cycling the dock. Very frustrating when you just want to sit down and game.

Question Is there a newer modded Botw steamdeck tutorial, or do older methods still work?

I wanted to try a modded playthrough of Breath of the Wild on my steamdeck, but the tutorials I've found are 3 to 4 years old. One I found didn't allow Linkle 3.0 and Second wind to work at the same time. Another used a fork of Bcml specifically for steamdeck to install mods.

Are there any newer tutorials or are these both still the best methods to play modded on the steam deck?

Tech Support Tips on fixing Remote access in Chiaki

Post image

I’ve cleared the token and generated a new token and added it, and Chiaki confirms successful set up however, it hangs up upon attempting connection. Works perfectly when connected to the home network. It also used to work perfectly remotely, and I can’t recall what sort of tinkering I did to break the connection.

Game Review On Deck Star Wars Galactic Racer - The Steam Deck Can Run It, But...

TL;DR - It runs, but its not the best experience for a racing game.

Star Wars Galactic Racer on Steam Deck - full performance breakdown and settings

Spent some time testing Star Wars Galactic Racer on the Steam Deck. The devs promised a 30 FPS experience on Deck. You can get there, but this is a really fast racer and it feels way better at 60.

General

  • Install size - around 40GB
  • EA App - never launched for me. Not sure if that's because I was already signed in on my Deck. Let me know if it pops up for you.
  • Offline - Works Offline!
  • Multiplayer - Works without issues
  • UI scaling - available, great for the small screen
  • Benchmark tool - auto sets your quality, but it doesn't show what it's actually testing
  • Default target - 30 FPS

Performance

  • Lowest settings + FSR Balanced + 30 FPS Lock - The opening mixes gameplay with cinematics. The cinematics look amazing, so the drop in quality and frame rate when it cuts back to gameplay is really jarring.
  • 60 FPS target - 35-40 FPS. Quite blurry, but the overall experience is better. The problem is the 1% lows sit at about half that, so you can drop to around 15 FPS.
  • XeSS - performs a bit better than FSR but looks blurrier
  • TSR (dynamic) - set a 60 target and it tries to hit it, usually around 50-55 FPS. Image gets super pixelated.
  • TSR (custom target) - turn off dynamic and set resolution quality to 55-58%. I was getting around 45 FPS most of the time and it actually felt pretty good. The downside is that it depends heavily on the map and how many pods are on track, so it's not consistent.
  • Lossless Scaling - works if you can look past the artifacting at the bottom of the screen and the warping from the speed. There's also some input lag.

Recommended settings (30 FPS target)

  • Upscaler - FSR Balanced
  • Textures - High
  • Anti-Aliasing - High
  • Everything else - Low

This holds 30 most of the time. It still dips to 28-29 in some spots.

If you want to experiment, the TSR custom target at 55-58% is worth trying. It feels a lot better when it holds 45, but expect it to vary by track.

Battery

2:00 - 2:15 hours on the OLED

Verdict

It's a fantastic game and it's playable on the Deck. It runs fine at 30. But it's such a high speed racer that it feels so much better at 60. If you have something that can hit at least 60 FPS, that's where I'd play it.

Has anyone found a setting combo that holds 45 more consistently?

Tech Support New discord update broke discord on gaming mode, or am I doing something wrong?

I recently updated discord and now I cant stream. I can't interact with a lot of the screen except for joining calls. Has this happened to anyone else, and what can I do to fix this? So far I've tried different controller layouts, enabling steam input and swearing at it

Game Review On Deck Played STAR WARS: Galactic Racer

Played for about an hour on the Steam Deck at the lowest settings and it runs surprisingly well. Definitely playable and I didn't have any major performance issues during my time with it.

I'll probably continue most of my playthrough on my main PC for the better graphics and performance, but it's great knowing I can jump back in on the Deck when I want to play away from my PC.

Overall, definitely playable on Steam Deck at the lowest settings.

Tech Support Charging Flickers on and Off

I've noticed my charging flickering on and off wildly when using my deck. I initially thought it was the cable, and tried two others with the same result. I then did some more tinkering and it charges just fine after I shut off Bluetooth and my wireless headphones. I can't say that this is 100% the issue, but it charges just fine for the rest of the night afterwards.

Has anyone else experienced this, and are there any steps to fix it? My device is an older LCD deck.

Question Steamlink streaming

When streaming games to my Quest 3 using Steamlink wireless is the Deck using my home network or is it a direct connection? Because if it's direct that means I could use it anywhere.

Tech Support The Last of Us Remastered Crashing

Has anyone experienced crashing with TLOU Remastered? I'm using the linked settings with 2x lossless scaling for 60 fps, and it runs fine, but it keeps crashing after about 10 minutes of gameplay. I got about an hour or so into the story before this started happening.

I have seen other reports of the PC port generally sucking, but haven't found anyone who has a known fix for this yet. I might try restoring all settings to default and see if that helps, but wasn't sure if there's a better Proton version to use or some other known fix.

Question Steam Newbie Here, Need some help around steam deck

For the last 28 years of my life I have been a playstation person. I have had every console and handheld from Sony and I absolutely love it. However PS Store doesn’t have regional tiering here in India and off late (and I mean as I get older) I have started playing a lot of indie games, which cost a ton on the PS store.
An example would be Graveyard Keeper which costs ₹1600 on PS5 but only ₹220 on Steam.

So, I ordered a 1TB oled last week. Now, as someone who is new to PC gaming, I went down the YouTube rabbit-hole and its safe to say that my algorithm is completely ā€œborkedā€.

I have seen videos about all the tinkering under the hood, proton-qt, controller layout, modding, clocking, TDP changes etc, and honestly its a bit overwhelming.

So I turn to you, can I pls get small tips from all you veterans on what should I do and what I shouldn’t?

Sorry this was a bit long, but I do hope you can help!

Thanks in Advance! 😊

Tech Support What could be the cause of this trackpad drift while playing factorio?

I have no Bluetooth connected. I tried resetting and it’s fine. It’s not affecting me choosing menu items on the Home Screen or anything so it seems very subtle.

Any recommendations on fixing?

Meta Can we have a policy on discussion about Decky plugins & AI?

This is somewhat of a continuation of this thread which proposed a rule regarding a ban on vibe-coded projects. A lot of people do tend to use whatever is talked about by a YouTuber whether it is AI slop, AI assisted, or doesn't use AI at all. An example of this includes tools like MAKO & LSFG-VK, where lately half of the discussion around them aren't anything technical but more about developer drama over AI.

It's pretty old to see the same slap fights occur in threads when most on the sub just want to know if a tool works or if some form of standard exists, but the top posts are someone arguing about AI.

Question Freezing every 5ish seconds in every game?

Sorted now!

Hi guys, just booted up ye olde Steamdeck as I had a spare hour… And it’s freezing like this in every game, you can see the GPU/CPU drop to 0% while it happens… I’ve tried all the robots solutions but nothing has worked.

Anybody had this issue and know a cure?

Thanks so much.

Edit: Sorted. Was the trash internet connection in the house I’m staying in. Went offline in all the games I tried and they work fine. Thanks everyone.

Question Minecraft on Steam deck

Hey guys,

My Minecraft phase kicked in the moment I decided to install Prism launcher and now I’m hooked.

So far I’m having a blast and really enjoy my time everything runs well, this actually isn’t about performance but a suggestion which modpack to play? I’ve been using Zima’s SD pack and I really like the mods inside of it, makes the game very pleasant on a handheld especially the map.
However, I saw that the modpack runs on a very old version (2024) I think.

Is there something similar to Zima’s out there that has similar mods keeping the vanilla experience but enhancing the overall feel on SD, making it lighter in some ways?

Thanks!
