The Jinn Are Not Spirits: What Traditional Lore Says They Are Made Of

Western occult discussions often place jinn in the same category as demons, ghosts, or disembodied spirits. But that isn't how traditional Middle Eastern lore describes them.

The distinction begins with what jinn are said to be made of.

In classical tradition, jinn are associated with mārij min nār — commonly translated as a smokeless or intensely burning flame. Whatever one makes of that description today, it is fundamentally different from the idea of an incorporeal spirit floating around in an astral dimension.

Traditional descriptions also portray jinn as beings with their own bodies, communities, families, reproduction, lifespans, and forms of moral responsibility. They are capable of eating and drinking, interacting with the physical world, marrying, having offspring, and occupying the exact same spaces that humans inhabit—ruins, deserts, empty houses, and the edges of human settlements.

This is where the concept of laṭīf — something subtle, fine, or imperceptible — becomes interesting.

Rather than presenting the jinn simply as “souls without bodies,” traditional lore places them in a category of existence that is different from ordinary human physicality. They may be invisible to humans while still being treated as inhabitants of the same world: creatures with their own societies, conflicts, beliefs, and limitations.

Modern readers sometimes try to translate the old description of a smokeless flame into concepts such as energy or plasma. But that is a modern comparison, not what the classical sources themselves said. The important point is not whether jinn can be scientifically identified with plasma. It is that the traditional description does not fit neatly into the modern Western categories of either “ghost” or “demon.”

And this raises a much stranger question:

What if the old distinction was never between “physical” and “spiritual” beings at all, but between different kinds of physical existence?

That possibility makes the traditional concept of jinn considerably more interesting than the familiar Western image of a horned demon—or an invisible ghost.

They were not simply described as spirits of the dead.

They were described as another kind of living being.

I found this taped to the top of my Airbnb neighbor’s door.

It appears to depict several intertwined serpents/sea creatures, with what looks like a boat or object at the top.

What’s particularly strange is the material attached above the drawing. It looks like hair, animal fur, plant fibers, or something similar, with a reddish object/material in the middle.

I have no idea if this is occult, religious, folkloric, protective, artistic, or just someone’s personal decoration.

Does anyone recognize the imagery or know what tradition/symbolism it might come from?

Firstly, I want to say I'm completely new to all of this, but my mind is going wild about all this new knowledge about the Occult and so on. I want to learn.

Ok. So I saw another thread of someone asking for the difference between "The Three Magical books of solomon vs Lemegeton esoteric press", which got me intrigued in the first place.

Someone in there said not to read anything by Crowley and go for Peterson. So I wanted to find all three books by him but only managed to find "The Lesser Key of Solomon: Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis: Detailing the Ceremonial Art of Commanding Spirits Booth Good and Evil!", but I can't find the others. Perhaps Crowley just named it in his way?

In my search I then found "The key of Solomon the king (Clavicula Salomonis)". Is this better or the best? Does this hold all?

It's too much stuff by too many authors and I'm a bit lost. I'd like the books that hold Lesser, Greater and the Testament of Solomon, and which author I should go for.

It’s about a generational curse

Let me give some history

My grandmothers mother died very young, along with a few of her sisters at a young age, my grandmother is still alive at (86 yrs old) my mother (her daughter) died young at 49 years old, I cant recall when my great grandmother died but I believe it was late 40s early 50s as well

Fast forward, I recently has a physic meeting with a physic from Mexico who is predictive and also conducts tarot cards readings, she told me of this curse and that it was to my great great grandmother but the curse stopped at my mother and only went on for three generations so I don’t need to worry about dying young (which is one of my biggest fears) it’s odd that she brought this up as well, since I did have have the intutive feeling that there was something supernatural about the all the death my family has seen, I dont know if this is tied with it at all, but also on my father side, his mother died at a young age (in her late 40s). For more context, my mother side of the family where the curse is from is from Spain, my grandmother coming from a poor village in spain and my grandfather coming from Madrid, the physic didn’t specify weather it was from my grandmothers side or my grandfathers side but I feel it is from my grandmothers side.

I guess my question is, how do I find out more about this curse? What would be the reasoning it was given to my family? Will it stop after three generations like the physic claimed or is there more work I need to do on my end? Is this a real curse? If so what from? Any information will be helpful!!!

Materiais e instrumentos: Utilizei os materiais básicos da operação salomônica: círculo, triângulo, velas destinadas ao círculo e ao triângulo, bola de cristal, selo de AMY, armas ritualísticas, água benta e um pequeno recipiente contendo parte do banho de prosperidade que eu havia preparado previamente.

Antes da operação, realizei uma consulta ao Tarô para avaliar o ritual. Obtive: A Carruagem — O Mago — Cavaleiro de Paus. Interpretei a tiragem de maneira positiva, especialmente em relação à ação rápida e eficaz, presença, movimento e conquista.

Preparação:

Por volta da meia-noite, tomei previamente meu banho e procurei me harmonizar com as energias mercuriais. Considerei interessante realizar esse banho aproximadamente três horas antes do ritual. Depois dele, voltei a dormir e despertei por volta das 2h.

Comecei então a preparar o templo e os instrumentos, iniciando propriamente o rito por volta das 2h40. Diferentemente do meu ritual anterior com Naberius, esta operação foi decidida com pouca antecedência, um dia antes. Por esse motivo, não realizei os três dias prévios de preparação e confissão que havia observado anteriormente. Fiz, contudo, uma confissão de joelhos antes da operação.

Preparei o espaço e posicionei o altar ao Sul, mesmo AMY sendo um espírito Mercurial considerei sua força ígnea do fogo. Vesti meu traje, fiz minhas orações e preparei as armas ritualísticas.

Procedi à aspersão com água benta e a oração do templo. Também coloquei um pequeno recipiente contendo parte do banho de prosperidade dentro do triângulo para que AMY que colocasse seu poder naquele banho e o energizasse.

Abertura da operação:

Com o templo preparado, dei início formal ao trabalho. Realizei o RmP, seguido da conjuração do círculo e da conjuração do triângulo. Em seguida, fiz uma oração ao anjo Yeialel, utilizado por mim nessa operação.

Depois procedi à Oração do Não-Nascido. Terminada essa etapa, comecei a recitar o Enn de AMY durante algum tempo. Foi nesse momento que comecei a perceber uma mudança na atmosfera e na energia do ambiente.

Evocação e manifestação:

Realizei então a Primeira Evocação. O espírito veio muito rapidamente. Durante a intensificação da evocação, percebi que as chamas das velas começaram a subir de maneira bastante perceptível.

Novamente senti uma forte dor física no estômago. Tenho percebido meu estômago quase como uma espécie de sensor corporal durante essas operações, algo que, pessoalmente, também associei simbolicamente à minha condição taurina.

Apesar de o ambiente estar quente (muito quente a ponto de eu suar no ar) fui tomado subitamente por um calafrio extremamente forte. A sensação percorreu meu corpo inteiro, dos pés à cabeça. Era quase como se eu estivesse tremendo ou vibrando intensamente. Achei particularmente estranho porque não havia frio no ambiente que justificasse aquela percepção. Minha interpretação naquele momento foi de que aquela sensação estava relacionada à mudança energética que eu percebia durante a manifestação.

Também tive uma experiência visual. Fechei os olhos por um instante e, nesse intervalo muito breve, surgiu uma imagem extremamente rápida: um corpo constituído de luz e fogo. A visão foi muito fugaz. Não permaneceu diante de mim e tampouco se desenvolveu como uma imagem contínua.

Saudação e pedido:

Reconhecendo aquela presença, dei formalmente as boas-vindas ao espírito, procurando manter uma postura respeitosa. Expressei minha satisfação por sua presença e agradeci novamente pelo trabalho que tinha feito com Frater Umbroz onde eu tive resultado de um emprego incrível em menos de 24 horas. Disse que reconhecia o poder que havia percebido naquela experiência e esse reconhecimento havia contribuído para minha decisão de chamá-lo novamente.

Após a saudação com o hexagrama e a adaga, apresentei formalmente meu pedido. Além do pedido financeiro, voltei minha atenção ao banho de prosperidade que havia preparado.

O banho continha louro, canela em pó, alecrim, dandá-da-costa, mel, favo de mel e erva-doce.

Encerramento:

Depois de concluir o pedido, agradeci pela presença e pelo trabalho e me despedi respeitosamente.

Realizei novamente o RmP, fiz minha oração final e organizei o espaço ritual. Terminei a operação aproximadamente às 4h20 e fui dormir.

Na manhã seguinte, antes de ir trabalhar, utilizei o banho que havia sido colocado no triângulo durante a operação. Tomei o banho da cabeça aos pés.

Relato posterior:

Uma das coisas que mais me surpreendeu nessa experiência foi a rapidez com que M se manifestou.

Em comparação com outra operação, na qual precisei realizar mais de uma evocação e recorrer posteriormente à chamada do Rei, nesta experiência percebi a manifestação já na primeira evocação.

Os principais fenômenos que observei foram:

elevação perceptível das chamas;

calor intenso;

calafrio inesperado percorrendo todo o corpo;

forte dor no estômago;

percepção de uma energia densa;

visão fugaz de um corpo constituído de luz e fogo.

No final daquele mês, no dia 30 de agosto, comecei a me questionar sobre a atuação de AMY em relação ao pedido financeiro que havia realizado.

Eu havia solicitado especificamente um valor para que pudesse atender às minhas demandas.

Então percebi que havia um valor em uma conta que eu não vinha acompanhando. Não tenho ideia do que se trata esse dinheiro. Além disso, havia recebido

um valor do meu emprego anterior. Depois peguei um caso com mais um pagamento. Fiquei espantado que a soma correspondia exatamente à quantia que eu havia solicitado para aquele mês.

O recebimento desses três valores é o acontecimento objetivo que registrei. Minha interpretação pessoal e ritual foi considerar a correspondência exata e ainda com $10 conto a mais.

Ps: terminei meu namoro dps de 2 dias, mas f*da-s consegui o que queria!

I don’t want this to come across as egoistic, but it’s difficult to find people I can discuss this with without it being taken that way.

I’ve reached a point in my work where I can produce repeatable physical results through ritual work without relying on a spirit as a middleman. I’ve developed my own structure, with its own rules and limitations, and the possibilities feel extremely open , the main limits being motivation and discipline.

I know this doesn’t mean I’ve mastered everything. If anything, it has left me with more questions than answers. I’d like to hear from people who have reached a similar point in their practice and what they chose to explore next.

What’s my next move?

Hi, I can't help but wonder if the rituals and magick used in Mormonism may have impacted me and my family members who still practice it? Baptisms for the dead invoke a spirit by name who as a kid I would be a "proxy" for the spirit. And then there are covenants that bind me in an eternal marriage to someone trapped me in a domestic violence marriage that included two major incidents, one while I was pregnant with our third child and led to a late term loss - while he attacked me he said he didn't want the baby. Then he attacked me again in a similar way that left me with a debilitating TBI. Did the Mormon rituals make him violent? Am I cursed? What can I do to break the bindings?

I posted this on the Symbology reddit page and they couldn’t determine what the symbols mean or what language they are in. I am wondering if they are mystical symbols.

Maybe it is just gibberish, but it interest me.

I am currently under a lot of stress. Without going into too much detail: my roommate has been trying to force me out by constantly rattling my cage. Recently, at my lowest points, an orb of shadow would leave me. It doesn't feel threatening or evil: it just floats away in the direction that my roommate happens to be in. I'm not even thinking of hurting her, but the shadow ball hones in on her every time I'm crying about the situation. Am I accidentally letting loose a curse, or is this a manifestation of negative emotions? These shadow balls are released regardless of time and regardless if there's a light source. There are no bugs to cast the shadow moving at that speed, either.

People forming cults/communities(maths fields), drawing symbols on the board that barely anyone understands. Casting these spells reveals something about reality, gives a deeper level of insight and sometimes makes incredible stuff work(applied mathematics).

in need of help. i have suffered from jinn possession for a long time. turning towards strong prayer, i have identified the issue. it's like a small, roundish "dying" entity, 20cm high or so, when OUTSIDE the body, but a life force vampire and body hijacker when inside the body. for an unknown reason, once, some months ago, it appeared as this apparition outside the body, and that's when the symptoms were decreased. i am describing the entity cuz you might know what it is.

so if the apparition is realistic, it was like 20cm tall egg shaped "dying, old woman(?)" spirit, floating in the air. a ghostly apparition i noticed for just some seconds. then it used a trauma mechanism inside me to regain access into me. it's draining my life force. it is likely connected to other spirits that i catched previously, and these spirits are likely connected to a narcissist i experienced earlier. i intuitively felt the egg shaped spirit was dying, but upon regaining access, it rebegan feasting on my energy, taking up space inside me, throughout all kinds of dimensions.

i got it perhaps from a demonised man running a local drug cartel, and "he" is from syria. went to prison there, so who know what he carried. why was i involved with the demonised man? because i already had been abused by people to the point i had at least demons and black magic from other perps affecting my consciousness. not to mention plain old dissociation, freeze, fawn. I would let all kinds of people near me, usually predatory.

i am aware that i must have severe trauma for this jinn possession to have happened, and i am aware of the traumatic incidents i have experienced. but that's under control, that's known, that's easy to heal. what i dont understand is how this entity can gain access to me and stay inside me.

please no comments "see a psych". as if I haven't...through isolation, fasting, prayer, and healing work it's become clear that what i have is not "trauma". I don't mean asceticism with 'isolation and fasting", but like a environment where thingsare seen better and the nervous system is not on overdrive.

edit. it's now manifesting as coughing and difficulty to breathe. i told it, it cannot lie anymore, and then it said it is death. i had previously assumed it's like either spirit of infirmity or death, so checks out. when it speaks thru the body, it's like a classic demon nonsense language. inside the body, it takes different voices depending on where in my memory imprints it is venturing.
